Yeah, 2 days before actually - full moon is the 24th. I don't think it lives up to the literal meaning of a syzygy IMO

syzygy
n : the straight line configuration of 3 celestial bodies (as the sun and earth and moon) in a gravitational system

which would make it a new moon or a lunar eclipse... god, I sound like such a geek.

According to wikipedia...

That eclipse thing is interesting too, although it can't be seen in the "london time district"

Bit of a guess here;

Does this mean that the alignment of the Earth, Moon and sun make a right angle?

Corrected:

Superior Conjuction: The position of an interior celestial body (planet) when it is on the opposite side of the sun from Earth.

Inferior Conjunction: the alignment of the Earth and an interior planet on the same side of the sun

Opposition: The position of two celestial bodies when their longitude differs by 180°, especially a configuration in which Earth lies on a straight line between the sun and a superior (exterior) planet or the moon.

Or to put it a little more simply; a syzygy is not when celestial bodies are at right angles, it's when they're all in a straight line. Order isn't important (it could be star, moon, planet or star, planet, moon, or star, planet, planet, etc.), but they should line up. Bruceph's Wiki quote suggests that the full moon and new moon could be considered syzygies even though they're not quite in a perfectly straight line, but I think 2 days early is really pushing things Wink
