I'd more interested in birth/death dates in Perplex City calender than looking for extra parts of a name which probably aren't even there

From off-topic to back on:

Off topic in response to an earlier post - The Beatles didn't do Lord of the Rings because Tolkien owned the rights and hated the idea.

Now On topic:

Using Parenthood.com, I came up with 28 names that begin with Fran. The variations, with their origins are:

Fran Unisex Latin
Frances Female Latin
Francesca Female Latin
Francine Female French List
Francis Unisex Latin
Fraya Female Scandinavian
Franca Female Spanish
Francis, meaning French, from France,
France Female English
Francena Female French
Francene Female French
Franci Female English
Francia Female English
Francie Female English
Francille Female French
Francina Female French
Francique Female Teutonic
Francisca Female Dutch
Franciska Female Hungarian
Franciszka Female Polish
Francoise Female French
Frangag Female Gaelic
Franki Female English
Frankie Female English
Frannie Female Latin
Franny Female Latin
Frantiska Female Czechoslovakian
Franze Female Teutonic

Franziska Female German

Now, why have I bold faced the last one? Mendling is a last name of German origin, and this is the only variation with german roots. At the least, this expanded list should provide some good anagram fodder.

Doesn't the word 'Teutonic' mean 'German' as well?
I was under the impression that it was...

In as much as Gaelic means French that is to say, Teutonic Anglo-Saxon tribes used to live in the Region now called Germany and Gaelic Tribes lived in the Region called Gaul which is modern day France. So yes and no Teutonic will be close to German but it isn't really German... probably close enough though.

Hate to say this, but speaking my mind...

I think she's called Fran. Smile Wish I had my Occam signature back again!

Thats fine, you're entitled to your opinion. Just as long as you're not expecting me to agree with you Wink

personally I like the scooby doo theory, that is:

"this evil man [who we all thought was the nice old geezer who ran the hotel] is the one who tried to steal the cube"

"I would have had it too, if it werent for those pesky Mendling kids"

Yes, it has been a long day, why do you ask?

I don't think that there is an anagram within the limited scope of "Fran Mendling." I think that there is likely something(s) we are missing, but I think any anagram is going to have more than just one character's name.

I do agree that her given name is not likely going to be "Fran", but that does not mean that the PMs went to that level - they may have just come up with a name that 'fit' who they felt Fran to be. I think any analysis with these meager data can only please aesthetic extrapolation.

Of course, i could be and history has shown - that I am capable of being completely WRONG!

Ling Mend Fran!

personally i'd be very dissappointed if the PMs use cheap anagrams -- just doesn't fit with the scenario IMHO

me too. the puzzles really should relate to the story... which they seem to have so far... anagrams for names is really cheap for an alternate REALITY game... the ARG idea is an alternate reality... not a cat and mouse website where you need to find the hidden word in someone's name... that is merely a puzzle game.. it shows too much OOG "magic" from the PMs... what are the chances of someone's name being an anagram on purpose...

it happens some times it's not even an anagram http://www.california-recall.com/articles/article-85501089439579.html like the cia informant in this article.

yeah exactly... in real life, people use pen-names and such, anagrams of their real names to protect their identity... it's perfectly reasonable IMO that Acadamy people, or anyone involved with the hunt for the cube might use code names and such... not saying these names are anagrams, but it's not far-fetched to be impossible. ie I don't think it's 'cheap' or 'meta' or anything, since it's a logical in-game possibility for the actions of the characters... *shrug*
