hmmm, possible. but why was that number lying around for ages, then?
and... what if they only made a random string of numbers as a fake tracking number, "because-we-need-one", to make it more authentic, and it doesn't leed anywhere?! there's been so much work around with that string, and yet no solution. i'm sure that i'm impatient, but somehow i feel that
1) it's a completely random number, and is a mislead
2) it'll turn up somewhere in-game as a clue or password or something.
Or

what if it's a library catalogue number of a book? or something?!

Unfortunately I think it is not a catalogation number for books since ISBN (the system used to catalogate books) has only 13 digits.
Good try though

ok my 2 cents on the postcard code...
It means nothing.
It was suppose to mean something but the postcard was accidentally released early. We dont seem to have any real reason for it being in Bologne airport so I was thinking, what if someone (a pm) had been on holiday and were on their way home, their plane got delayed and they weren't going to make it back to the office for a meeting. So they take their mobile phone out, grab a cup of coffee, take out their diary (with a copy of the postcard in) and ring the office to re-arrange their meeting. They talk on the phone for a while then their plane gets called. In the rush to get to the gate they quickly gather up their things but dont pick up the postcard which had fallen out of their diary. Next person to sit at the table finds it, googles and arrives here.
And the rest as they say is history. The PM's realise that they have a problem with the postcard being released early and dont have time to put into action the plan for the postcard number...
Of course this could be completely wrong and the number does mean something but I definitely think the Bologne airport early release sounds probable....Feel free to pick this spec to pieces now

Salk - if they were planning something, I don't think it would matter on the time of the card being relased. Couldn't they just start it up when it gets released, and then throw in the filler crap?
Anyways, I think that the release of it makes sense. Just early enough to warn us that something's coming soon, but not so early that we're waiting for 6 months for it to start ramping up to the actual game.

Ok quick html related question. on the Wiki it is suggested that this number may be a set of html co-ords in the form 221, 545, 484, 848, 465, 100, 503, 215.
My knowledge of html is limited but I assume this is a ref to a "MAP" tag but it not being a tag I have used can someone explain how you can have what look like 3d co-ords relating to a 2d screen?
This may sound a bit off topic but please help me as this may lead somewhere, honest.

My personal take is that the number definitely means something, but we haven't been provided with enough information to crack it yet.
We are really just playing the waiting game right now it seems (in many, if not all the threads). Hopefully Saturday will kick some threads off again!

Excuse me if this got mentioned.
The semacode was translated as "www.perplexcity.com." The 24 digit number is a semacode node. Was it translated using a translator, or did someone use a phone browser?
Read semacode.org and you'll see we're not the only ARG'ers with this experience.
Has anyone tried
making a 20 x 20 data matrix semacode with the 24 digit number?
I know it would translate into itself, but is there another browser-specific URL resolution method? This semacode is used for directing people to websites especially WAP enabled devices, it would follow that they might have alternative resolution algorithms that only get triggered if you have the right hardware and software configuration.
Someone checked IPv6 and it didn't work as that type of address, but maybe one needs a specfic phone camera and a specific browser to translate the 24 digit number or the semacode itself into IPv4 further???
Has anyone tried browsing the site using only this configuration?
I don't have this technology. It's like iCat.

Well, putting the postcode into the datamatrix/semacode would give you....the postcard code. Datamatrixes are 2D barcodes, Semacode is a IMPLEMENTATION of datamatrixes, its like ISBN barcodes are a implementation of barcodes for a specific area/task
Also IPv4 addresses have been tried, long and short and still it doesnt work.
Good ideas but they've been done already (check here for further stuff.

Yeah, I know, except that they haven't. See my post.
I meant do you think it should be done with a WAP device.

Well, I know www.466453.com works, but that's the only instance I've heard of numbers being used to represent a URL on a phone. As far as I know (at least on my phone), you generally just type in the URL as you would in a regular web browser.
I did try visiting perplexcity.com in my WAP phone, and all it did was attempt to download the letter image and fail (probably too big for it), and then display the email form underneath the empty box where the image should have been.
Edit - It's not a login form, it's an email form. But you knew that anyway, right?

converting the number into the semacode generator on the site and then reading it with a mobile reads 2215...etc...
As for IP addresses, they can only resolve 2 ways...long or short....google it and try it

Take a look at the source code for the perplexcity.com/index.html page - it could be the co-ords of a series of points that, when joined up, give us a shape on an image that's clickable. I have no idea what use this idea would be though - if there's a link on a page we'll either tab to it or find it in the source in a matter of minutes if we can't see it straight away.
As for the rest of the ideas, please check the Wiki first - lots of you wasting time trying stuff that we already tried. Save yourselves the frustration - we've got a huge list of ways to decode it that don't work

What is the relevant information the 24 digit number? Forgive me for breaking this down to the basics:
Here's what we know:
1.) Cube, stolen (duh)
2.) The cube, wherever it is now, had to get there somehow.
3.) There may be some relation between modern Earth and Perplex City (the anthropological shoe project).
4.) There seem to be certain geographical "hubs" appearing in the game, such as New York (ad, Alice in Wonderland), London (ad, Abbey Road, flight numbers on luggage tag, 50 pound note), China (ad), Singapore (luggage tag), Melbourne (luggage tag).. and so on.
So, perhaps the 2210 is simply the post code for Sydney, and the 24 digit is just a randomly assigned tracking number. Assuming that very little we've seen so far means absolutely nothing, and the rest of the information on the postmark is redundant, perhaps the purpose is just to define Sydney as a place of future importance. Perhaps it is part of the trail of the cube?
