PUZZLE: Greywethers WPFE puzzle

The other thread is getting absurdly long, so I thought I'd put discussion for this puzzle here.

either that was just too easy, or i'm smart (i'd go with the former).

here is the next page:

Spoiler:
"a wish to share and I can send my note for hope on again a few to bare a secret to"

that's a strange poem, there's no denying
another task that you'll find trying
the letters and spaces, count them all
and nine by nine defines the walls

another shape shall lie inside
where your next piece of truth resides

OK, there are 82 characters including spaces. Which ALMOST fits into a 9x9 grid:

Code:

A_WISH_TO
_SHARE_AN
D_I_CAN_S
END_MY_NO
TE_FOR_HO
PE_ON_AGA
IN_A_FEW_
TO_BARE_A
_SECRET_T
O

Nothing jumps out at me here. Anyone have any more ideas?

The poem is supposed to be shown in the font "High Tower Text" which looks like this:

Probably doesnt matter...

I think we need to take the poem and make it a poem.

bare and share are the only two words that rhyme, so they're the ends of the lines. (I doubt that each line ends with "to" but they also rhyme, technically)

Once we have a real poem out of the nonsense, THEN we apply the numerical clue.

I was working on trying to figure out possibly which space to remove to make it fit the grid. I got the words SAINT and on another attempt HASTE. But it's not getting me far....lol

I slapped together a page with the letters in an html grid for better viewing. This was using the original order of the words, but i'll work on a follow-up version with the words as a rhyming sentence. [revised from 82 letters to 81]

Thanx for that attachment, bit easier on the eyes.

That extra space or letter is really throwing me out, it says 9x9 defines the wall so I can't see how anything could be outside - but it says also count ALL spaces and letters.

poem changed

The poem has been changed - now it will fit in the 9x9 grid. It now reads:

Quote:
a wish to share and I can send my note for hope on again a few to bare my step to

The change was to replace "a secret" with "my step".

Revised grid:

Code:

_SHARE_AN
D_I_CAN_S
END_MY_NO
TE_FOR_HO
PE_ON_AGA
IN_A_FEW_
TO_BARE_M
Y_STEP_TO

Read up to down, left to right:

Code:
A DETPITY S NEENO WHID    SIA  FOABTSRCMON AE HEAYR FRP  N  AEE TA NHGW TONSOOA MO

lots of almost words in there...

Using the grip that catherwood has put up (thanks btw), the spaces look a bit like the shaw shorthand.

I tried yrw.html and yqw.html which were what the possible letters looked like to me. Neither had a good result.

I'll chew on it some more. Maybe as I fall asleep tonight when the barriers between the conscious and unconscious come down I will think of something better.

Grid

Attached is the grid, in .jpg format. Hopefully this will make it easier to see the shape inside.

Well I've tried entering it in different ways...straight in, clockwise, and top to bottom. No luck...no shape that I can see (and I used red and black to make it easy to see something if it was there:). I thought may braille...but no luck there either (which makes sense as it said "shape").

If this is supposed to be anything like a crossword puzzle, which can sometimes leave a shape with the blank spaces, wouldn't it have to be symmetric?

There are:

3- 1 letter words
6- 2 letter words
4- 3 letter words
6- 4 letter words
2- 5 letter words
20 spaces
