Oops, that was me who asked about the Paper Trail, but forgot to log in. Anyhow, I tried searching for the name you referenced and also for the words "paper trail" but couldn't get any hits. Do you have a page #?

Yeah, you should stick with all those family friendly puppets like Crank Yankers, and Team America.

The content shouldnt have dropped its standards to the appalling level of Scooby Doo or Casper the Friendly Ghost with all that bad spirits stuff. Disgusting.

I am at the last episode and the pirate is summoning lucifer and bad spirits.

really? did we have to go there?
I have looked beyond j-wows cleavage 3x, seen zombie puppets that were PG or worse rated [the warning label should've been a red flag- Hello -stupid me] I mean, they are puppets, how bad could it get? arf The arm hacked off a pirate and now we need the dark side to point us to some money?

Ok, pirates do bad things, guns...
How much dead can the living handle?

I was all about the mystery folks. Not the misery.

The above mentioned are what hold me back from subscription.
[of gloveandboots]

And these guys are genius, creative [uber], hilarious, a laugh riot, a BLAST! I couldn't get enough -Of the use of split screen, after-effects, the writing, who built those beautiful puppets?, I wanted to work with them! They are the future of creative TV/web for adults and children, heck, I see a full-feature film! They reach men and women. They talk current events and social history (ie.70-80s TV, hipsters). Muppets LOOK OUT!

But I feel a bit hesitant to be so exuberant. The future of this country depends on the reservation of trash and children are watching, folks.
All the other episodes are funny without too much trash. Just think of the children. You may be targeting adults, but the kids will be drawn to you.

I will go back, Poor in spirit, to watch mario, fafa and gorilla. But I give up on the pirates! They gone too far. NYC can keep the loot.

Used to go to SVA... Sinced moved to PA. You can imagine my disappointment if I need to physcally be there!!!!!

I don't know if anyone here has access to that info or if its confidential, but the makers have long since been revealed, and have done interviews with MSNBC and G4TV. So i imagine everything is above board.

Even with that info would it actually help? Maybe states the borough.

My experience is even if you get to the right spot would you actually have the guts to dig? In a grassy park, not me.
But if its on a sandy beach, have we got enough clues to pinpoint where?
So probably just hidden in/on something.

Paper Trail

I was wondering if anyone has looked into any paper trails that might have been left by our pirate friends. Most cities/states require certain permits and legal obligations to be met to carry out such an elaborate contest, especially one that would involve burying treasure within the district. I can think of two possible reasons why a paper trail may exist.

1. Digging/construction permits. First let me say I personally don't think there is any treasure physically buried in NYC. But if it was buried there would have to be permits, site utility surveys, security at the site during the digging, and a possibly even a construction crew. The chances of accidental discovery or "loose lips" would always be possible. There would be just too many people involved in burying a 220lbs box to keep it a secret. But if it was buried in such a manner then there are public records to be found.

2. The NY Department of State/Game of Chance. Any contest involving more than $5,000 must be filed with the Secretary of State and a Certificate of Deposit or prize monies be put in a trust account or Surety Bond for total prize amount. The form should be available for public viewing and it would list the institution where the treasure is actually located. I think it's worth a peek at the records as this seems the most plausible way to "bury" treasure in NYC.

These types of contests usually have very controlled endings for legal reasons as well as publicity concerns (the main reason for the treasure hunt after all). Certain legal issues must be completed before anyone lays their greedy little hands on the loot. Things like certification of the winner, consent forms, hold harmless agreements, state and federal taxes, etc. Then comes the pictures and YouTube videos of the winner drooling over the treasury chess full of gold coins...good TV and good publicity. All this would be missed if the chest was unearthed in the middle of the night on some lonely beach.

I may be wrong about the paper trail, but it might be a worthwhile to attack the problem from a different direction.

Homages, etc.

I agree with Hunter. Don't get caught up on homages. There are just way too many homages in this puzzle to be using them. Seriously you could interpt anything from sports to movies to books to nursery rhymes to songs to history. Which people have done on here and they are valid. I have used these a bit different then most of the people on here.
Just wish I had time to work on this more. Crying or Very sad

Themes

Whoa i wasnt saying that was an example i believe(particularly the dentist), i was just coming up with that on the spot to explain a method of recurring themes. (Though i hadnt made that Rushmore connection before so will still keep it in mind.)
Johnny Depp movies however.......

As for the comic theme i also left out:
Angel. The statue of an angel in the graveyard.
Beast. "nor beast"
Storm. "nor weather"
X-men. "nor man"

Ep3 also mentions Firefly/Buffy(Joss Whedon shows). One curious thing is Sarah Michelle Geller(Buffy) and Chris Evans(Fantastic Four/Human Torch) both starred in TMNT the ninja turtle movie.
Not long after these vids finished airing they released those Ninja Turtle Nativity Scene pics they made.
I wonder if we need to find Ioan Grryffud (King Arthur?) and Jessica Alba in other references to complete the FF team/set.
Some people also suggest Arthur Ashe stadium for Ep3, 'Ash' was the main characters name in Evil Dead.

Ep5 names:
Mr Garrison(Gerritsen Ave) - South Park. The transcript page on here misses this one(calls him Mister).
Gary Coleman - Mario brags "were on the right track" "On the Right Track" comes up on IMDB as one of his noteable roles.
John Kimble - Arnold Schwartzenegger in Kindergarten Cop. Set in Astoria, Oregon. Theres an Astoria in Queens.
Lance Henriksen/Hal Vukovic - Another Terminator reference(+Arnie above)

NB:The Mario&Fafa blogs also have a book on their shelf titled "Arnold Schwartzenegger". I wouldnt rule out their irrelevance for hints.

Ok, you have a point - not ALL the things you've mentioned are homages - some are clues. But my point was that far-reaching statements such as 'Bill Murray' being a running theme are just that; far-reaching. I doubt that there are any buried clues in the movies listed (particularly, the Little Shop reference is a stretch; I've done the show, and aside from the General Anesthetic clue I don't see the connection as being sound).

I do, on a point, have to agree that the overtures in Episode 6 to Marvel Comics (and the fact that Marvel's HQ is in NYC) does relate - in fact, it's one of my heaviest supporting factors that leads me to think the path arcs back across northern Queens and into Mid/Upper Manhattan after Episode 5 and through the end of 6, to complete the 'picture' we're supposed to see (which I believe to be either a ship or a bird with it's wings stretched high).

It's just GETTING there and getting it to work is what I'm still having a stop with.

You shouldnt overreach on that homage statement, it doesnt mean ignore everything in the videos. They only thing you can rule out with that is Pittsburgh Mall as a location.
You can use all those mentioned, just the final location will not be there.
Need to still use the homages for the solution/path, and avoid attaching 'homage' to everything that you havent fit into you solution yet, you'll get nowhere.

As for the Glove and Boots, im not saying use their videos at all, it just shows interests of the makers which is very useful for interpreting the clues.
e.g.Do they like high art or zombies?

Spiderman, Black Tom
Punisher, Captain
Wolverine, Crothers(X-men finale set on statue of liberty)
Batman, UALUEALUEALUEALE!!! Gotham an alternate NYC

Ep6 "All four of us could defeat it"
Fantastic Four. 'The Thing' is a member!

Wrong Direction

Don't dig tooo deep into any of the movies.

Ignore anything done by Glove and Boots that is not in any of the WLOG videos.

Go back to the first video and start fresh.

Re: Themes

For the record, I think this is rather silly. The movie/literature references were - explicitly - stated to be homages, and homages were explicitly stated to NOT be clues.

So...we're just going to fly in the face of the logic here then? Since apparently it's easier for everyone to draw on esoteric references and jimmy-rigged plot-points than for folks to actually translate what -are- clues into something that can be followed? E.g., subways in Ep 3, Busses in Ep 5, the meetup at _______________ in Ep 6, etc.

(Doubly for the record, the ______ isn't me being coy or cagey about a purported location, it's me not knowing an exact location because I - hypocrite that I am - haven't come to it yet through a real, full work-through).

Honestly, I think the biggest stoppage of this hunt now is people's laziness to do the recognized work - mine included. So again, in my humble opinion, chasing down references to Bill Murray movies would be fruitless.

That's not to say that there aren't overarching themes, but I don't think they're so blatantly scatter-shot across the artistic spectrum.

A Pirate wrote:
Yeah those are the 2 main fictional Nancy's that come to mind for me. So Dickens, Shakespeare is mentioned in Ep1, and I have Mark Twain's ghost for "comes down to get warm" in Ep7 fittingly from the tale 'A Ghost Story' same as the Eps title.

Another theme would be fast food:
Ep3 Subway
Ep5 KFC "Double Down"
Ep6 Popeyes (gravestone) + Mulligan eating burger and drink
Ep8 Flying birdie could be a McDonald's golden arch sign 'm'

************
But the way i use themes is such:
Ep 2 suspected to end in Columbus Circle.
Columbus was a character in Zombieland.
Noteable Bill Murray cameo.
And if Bill Murray is a recurring Theme, this location is a legitimate end location for the vid.

Ep2. Rushmore. Mt Rushmore appears in Toms flightpath
Ep3 Groundhog Day. Fafa the Groundhog
Ep6 Little shop of Horrors. The dentist in the comic, though Steve Martin was the actual dentist in the movie.
Ep7 Ghostbusters. ghostshooters
Lost in Translation. Was there a moment somewere it mentioned it was translating Toms words?

Bill Murray is also a famous NY resident, and has appeared in the Mario and Fafa webblog videos, same as many other themes ive mentioned.(Lost,Thor, horror movies, video games), so is definite part of their interests.

The ticker mentions Ken Masters from Streetfighter, also crothers cut off red sleeves in Ep2 (and E.Honda sits on the sheld in the Glove and Boots videos).

Raul Julia starred as the villian in Streetfighter, also starred in Addams Family.
Which in turn has 'Thing' another severed hand!

Glove and Boots also did a video on Time-Travel, which is interesting because Christopher Lloyd starred in Addams Family as well. also famous for Back to the Future. Edward Furlong starred in Terminator 2 (Ep4 Furlongs). Both Time travel films.

Ep8 "get those times back"

Ep3 ticker mentions a Mall. Marty McFly drives back in time at Twin Pines Mall.
Michael J Fox also did Spin City, possible City Hall reference at some stage.
