Woo, ok this is good, overall! Hotel looks very very nice... love the room names Razz

So... wifi costs $15/day, but wired is free? Or is internet at all $15/day?

Going to book flights now asap.
AirTran has discount coach prices and regular - is the discount price available for all or does it require a membership or card or something? Seems odd to list a 'discount' price next to the regular price.. who'd buy the latter?

Anyway, this is good news Smile

ETA: On looking at the booking page, I noticed that it says the group rate is available until July 2nd. Is this true? If so, that means that people need to book the rooms before then to get the $149 rate, correct?

Oh, we'll likely buy wireless for the conference room. Not sure if we'll buy it during the social events.

I would be happy to donate my laptop for streaming during any session where I'm physically present, assuming that the "lobby" wireless reaches there, or someone pays for the wireless, or I wind up having extra money (I'm not against paying, I'm just busy selling organs to afford to go myself).

I won't have anything more sophisticated than the (pretty decent) webcam on my macbook, but it's available, given the above.

Not to defend $15/day for internet but... pretty much every hotel in midtown charges for wireless, posh or not. I thought about negotiating for it, but if they took the charge away there, they'd find some other way/place to add it on and, at least this way, you're in control of it.

Negativeview: I don't know if we'll have anyone doing any live streaming this year. "Martin Aggett" did it last year and I don't know if he's coming to Atlanta. We were looking at a venue that could do live streaming of the main conference sessions, but the W is not it. (and that would have only been the main conference sessions)

I am likewise not annoyed by the plugs in rooms. What this does mean is that if people are sharing rooms, that will need to be taken into account. It's possible to set up mini wireless networks from one laptop to another, if someone in the room knows how.

What does worry me somewhat though are those poor #pretendargfest people. Are we going to be able to live stream the events? I've been to some hotels were "lobby" meant pretty much anything non-guest-room, and some where "lobby" was very small and really meant just the lobby.

Either way though, I'll take it, and I'm not trying to discount the work done. Just curious if this level of information is known.

Any time Pita Smile I saw something about the whitescreen of forum death in this thread. Looks like space is on it Smile

14.95 is really annoying, i agree.... but this is a "posh" hotel, and as someone pointed out to me earlier, that seems typical of pricier hotels. Also, from the last couple years, we didn't exactly have the best free wifi in the rooms anyway, with very few exception, I had to have my lappy plugged in. But, hey, either way, not like imbri can get that waived, and hey great room discounts. Smile

Thank you Pixie. I was getting a white screen of death and apparently sent that message three times, even though all I was seeing was a white screen of death. My handy-dandy "delete message" seems to have disappeared. Unless it has moved from where it used to be and I cannot find it.

Thank you Vortech. I don't know why your page for the hotel is different from the page imbri linked to, but it is. Also, $14.95 a day for wifi? That bites.

I couldn't find this info on the website, so to save anyone else having to call Atlanta to find it out:

Checkin time: 3pm
Checkout time: 12pm

Oh happy day! We can now tell you exactly which hotel will be hosting ARGFest 2010:

The W Atlanta - Midtown

That's right. We're going in style this year! We're fancy!

But we're fancy with a oh so nice rate! That's right. $149/night! Not bad! Not bad at all!

To book at the rate, you can do so from this page.

The location & contact info is:
W Atlanta - Midtown
188 14th Street NE
Atlanta, Georgia 30361, USA
Phone: (404) 892-6000

note: there are THREE Ws in Atlanta: Buckhead, Downtown, and Midtown. We are at Midtown one. Remember that. Midtown Midtown Midtown.

Yep. The what depends on the day. During the weekend, you could participate in the games. During the week, you could come to the cocktail party or the keynote. Assuming space is available, tickets will be available at the door.

Creepy that Atlanta is almost exactly in the middle of the other two places.

And... because it always bugs me when this particular discussion gets underway...

Sort of a "Whatever you want to make it" affair, as far as distances go.
There was a round block in one of the German cities I lived in in the Army.
