Heh, my flight is non-stop and I'm about twice as far away Smile

You might want to wait for the official schedule to be announced before making any statements about it... we don't know anything for sure yet, but it's certainly not set in stone that there won't be a broader range of events this time... we did announce July 17-19, not 18-19.

With regard to what I said above, I think that even though it is concievable you'd miss some things, I'd say you'd still be able to catch a whole lot of the rest...

How has the schedule been in the past for these things? Is it conceivable to fly in absurdly early on the 17th without missing anything? Not that that's an option... it'll *only* be a SIX HOUR flight for me (that's if it were direct)...

Are you implying that you might perhaps be attending sir?

I'm sure that would be fine... generally people start milling about and gathering for sociality and crumpets early evening friday... the 'official' schedule really just happens on saturday with the panels and whatnot, and most everything else is the social aspect of the weekend Smile

The train is not a bad idea. I checked with Southwest for flights and from Sacramento for me and my girlfriend would be about $400 for the weekend. Yikes! So the train might be cool actually.

Otherwise I would propose we meet up and caravan up there. We are going to be driving the Jetta so we cannot offer loads of space but it would be cool to chat it up with everyone at the various rest stops.

The drive looks like it's about 8 hours.

trains on west coast

That Coast Starlight is (very often late) not the most timely train ever.

Now, who in the Bay Area wants to join up and take a road trip or train ride or whatever up to Porland?

ahhh crap. I'll be at work during this years convention. I don't have any vacation time left either. Maybe I can call in sick.

Or better yet, we should start an ARG-Fest-O-Con-Mid-West-O-Con!!! Someone get right on that

I'll add this info to the wiki when we start that section but FYI: the Portland Art Museum will be having a show ofEscher works from their permanent collection called "virtual worlds." The exhibit will be up when we are in town.

For those of you thinking about a Portland to San Diego run I might mention that Ashland (on I-5) runs a very good Shakespeare fest all summer long, including a semi re-created Globe theater (concrete instead of mud, etc). Henry VIII and Much Ado at the Elizabethan.

As mentioned earlier, and depending on finances and work, I hope to make this an extended trip to see the Pacific Northwest, all the beauty there and also Canada. I will be working with bird watching people to figure out good spots. The great thing about birding is that the locations are often places that are otherwise amazing to see even if you don't get to see the birds.

I'm open to trying to share plans with other people, but, of course, I don't want to step on anyone else's plans.

The best part of ARGFest is seeing all the lovelies from unfiction and the creative geniuses behind the curtains. Can't wait!

PS forgot to mention, I'll need to stop by a museum or two while there..and possibly kayak. I think I'll have to stay two weeks Smile

The earlier we buy plane tickets the cheaper... =)

The date is definite, you can plan away, although I would not be so sure about the price of plane tickets per se...

ah, I missed that too... 'unofficial' is the announcement, but the date was official.. see, *tired* Confused
