Here's a code everyone can use directly from Borders: G69CKR3K9T.
If you are not interested in collecting cards, go to Wikipedia.org. If you know the card names, all the information used came off their website, just cleaned up and shortened for what was needed; example: the cipher used by Ekatrina: I went on wikipedia for more information and found myself looking at the exact same example.

My friend's daughter and I decided to play the game together and we are having a problem entering the correct code into the "Sharp Shooter" challenge. Is anyone else having this problem (or did you?)
Thanks in advance!
My apologies for not reading it right the first time. I am having the same problems.

...not sure where everyone's entering codes here...
the document examination game that gives a 5 letter word needs to be entereing in the profile page; the card 10 digit codes need to be entered in the cards page. If that's what y'all are doing, and it's not working, and you've verified the word and code, then there's a problem...
I believe there should be two 'find the secret code' games, the pilot training, and now the sharp shooter game - 4 codes to be entered in My Profile.
eta: doing the shooter game now
eta2: ahhh I see the problem now. yeah, 'fight' isn't working... blah

We had the same problem with todays solve, the 'my profile' page did not recognise the five letter solve. We thought that we had mis-read at first and tried EIGHT just in case >< but to no avail, we will be trying later, again today, and be contacting CS if no joy.
Tex...
Same here. The code it gave me didn't work. Played the sharp shooter game a second time. Still didn't work. I also tried FLIGHT, FRIGHT, and EIGHT. neither did all lower case letters. I'm sure they'll fix it in the next few days.
maybe.
hmmm- looking back at past codes, it needs to be 5 characters. I don't know how they could have screwed it up.

Sharp Shooter
Thanks everyone. I appreciate the replies. We also tried to enter the word in the 10 digit form, using the Walmart Code breaker, but that did not work either. Guess we'll have to try later.
Thanks!

Thanks Maggie....I will look harder, but after we finish the challenge, it gives us a five letter word (not sure how to use spoilers, lol) to enter into our profile. I'm going to recheck now though.
I think maggie is making ref to a card code, not the solve for the sharpshooter mission.

What are you putting into the computer? There should be 10 numbers and letters. Double check the order. If you are still having problems contact helpSPLATthe39clues.com and give them details of your problem.
P.S. If this card has a number 400 or greater, it can be used by everyone else on this site.

dude! Nice catch
I like that. in a way it opens up another level of clue hunting... didn't think the book would have something like that (not that it's really hidden, just somewhere you wouldn't think to look, but you'd notice if you did). part of me kind of hopes they will include puzzle/clues of higher difficulty once they get a feel for their (actual) audience, since undoubtedly they'll have adults playing along as well...

Okay so I finished the book, and suddenly the stuff on the website makes more sense, somewhat
The book is okay, not great -- it doesn't have that Harry Potter sense of wonder (Bertie Bott's Beans, anyone?), but it is enjoyable, even if you do want to slap those kids sometimes...
But, did anyone else notice the secret message in the book?
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Starting on p. 129, the page numbers spell out ANNE CAHILL DID NOT DROWN.

My issue is: The prizes are limited to 6-14 year olds - however, they aren't tracking age in any foreseeable way on the website. .
My daughter and I are reading the book, cards and website content together. When we signed up, I used my information because I didn't read the rules beforehand. (I know, my fault... ugh) Of course when I created a new account for my daughter using her name and age, we couldn't reenter any of the card codes.
The customer service rep told me I was out of luck and would just have to buy more cards for the new account.
(issue has been taken care of!) They said that prizes will be awarded based on the age verification step in account setup. Our first account will automatically be disqualified.
Ah ok... I hadn't signed up on the site yet, and I misunderstood what thebruce had said in an IRC convo - I thought he said they *didn't* ask for a birthdate or age. My bad!
I'll be signing up tonight and collecting my cards/clues - for myself and for the fun of it, since all my kids are too old :-/

yay!
You should ask them how they plan to handle possible account imposters - players who register in the age bracket but aren't that age. I haven't got a response back at all from my request...

I'm sure the codes are stored in a database and connected to the account they were entered to.
It seems like that is how it's done. Except for the freebie codes, they're one-time use. Although, I've gotten a second email from customer service! They've revisited their policies due to player feedback and will be transferring my cards to the new account I created.
