I don't deserve the slot, but I'm happy to step in with the next one. This establishing shot is reprised during a crucial scene near the end of the movie.

Unforgiven is correct, natas. And I even tried to pick a shot that wasn't instantly recognizable to you guys...

You got it GuyIncognito!, it was Phase IV, Saul Bass' only feature length movie. I was holding back the pictures of ants cause it would've been a huge gimme.
Over to you.

I think it's Phase IV. Haven't seen it in a long time, but I love that movie. Great atmosphere and visuals by Saul Bass, so trippy & stylish.
No ants in the pictures yet, though, so I can't be sure.

No-one's got it yet, but your guesses are in the right area.
I'm at work now but will post a screenshot with a face in it when I get home.

How about "The Alpha Incident" (1978)? I didn't find any matching shots, only a similar plot.

Ow shoot. i know this movie...... But I can't remember who was in it. It's like "the Andromeda strain" except without the 'happy ending' if I recall correctly. I'll need to search for it.
*a few minutes later*
SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT. Where the hell is it?
OK random guess. When worlds collide.

It's not 'The Andromeda Strain', but you're thinking along the right lines JumboTron.

JumboTron
I would say "The Andromedia Strain", but that's already been used (by me!)
