I still get riled up by statements such as: "Disney surely wants to see if their new cartoon is a big enough hit to prove there’s an audience for the third film."
Well, gosh darn it, i would LOVE to watch the cartoon, but Disney plans to air it on a channel which I do not receive. How can they get an audience on an isolated corner of the cable market?
OH, btw, I was browsing at a local comic book publisher's open house this weekend, and discovered a series that I did not know existed (but you nerds probably did, so forgive the potential trout.) Called "Tron: Ghost in the Machine" it is a compilation of a series of six comic books with some original stories from the timeframe around Jet Bradley's adventures. It's a slick publication, and if anyone wants the individual issues I can get them at that store too.

Yeah, I was a bit bugged that some random person named "Chris" emailed them claiming to have been the one who talked to Bruce. That mis-citation is in the process of being fixed - since I am clearly not Chris and wasn't the one who emailed Ain't it Cool News

That sounds like first class "we don't have a clue what we're talking about but we're going to report it anyway!"

Also made it on to blastr.com (Syfy channel's news site) and bleeding cool which ultimately referenced the Aint it Cool News as their source for the vid....
Love that Syfy talks about some of the rumored story lines for Tron 3:

One of the ideas being juggled around for the next sequel is reintroducing the character of Yori, played by Caddyshack vamp Cindy Morgan in the 1982 original.
Joseph Kosinski, director of Tron: Legacy, revealed a potential plot for the screenplay earlier this year. Rumored to be called Tron: The Next Day (nice title, dude), the film picks up where Legacy ended, with Quorra in the real world, continuing the exploits and adventures of Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund).
A six-pack of alternative storylines have been in consideration since last winter. Several of them feature the character of Laura, who would be married to Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner's Tron character). Cillian Murphy is also said to be onboard the film, should it proceed, playing two pivotal characters.
Jeff Bridges is not confirmed to return as Kevin Flynn. But don't count the fantastic Mr. Flynn out yet. |

I would've been more comfortable if this was announced at the D23 Walt Disney Studios Panel, but yes, I heard the same thing from Bruce when I got his autograph also.

Luckily a lot of kids liked Legacy, which means they'll need parents to take them. Also, more and more companies are picking up the Tron concept for marketing which means Tron is being kept in our minds. We might not get an ARG for TR3N in lieu of a bigger standard marketing concept.
Also, Pixar came in and edited a bit of the script at the last minute. If we can just get Pixar to write TR3N, then this would be a "Pixar" movie as well and that will bring a host of followers all on its own.

I think the problem with Legacy was the writing. I liked the story, but when questions were answered, you were presented with more questions. That's the way LOST went (for those of you who don't know, Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz wrote for LOST). The problem with TR3N will be getting people back into the theater. Of course Tron fans will go, but what about those who weren't fans, saw Legacy and completely wrote off the franchise as horrible and confusing?

That's actually good news to me for a lot of reasons. First and foremost, Tr3n won't be held up by personnel availability. It can move along as fast as Disney wants it to. Second, although I REALLY liked the look of Legacy, and the action scenes were all very cool, I felt the story could have been stronger, and the ending (after the awesome jet dogfighting scenes) could have been done a lot better and written to make more sense. A different director and production crew might make Tr3n a whole different and better movie. I am so looking forward to it...

If I recall, they actually had requested they start on a script (obviously without the promise of making it into a film) shortly after the release of the movie as well.
