Weirton, WV - Lillian Self-Guided Tour
Very good point, RM.

To be clear:

The downtown signage for P. Schrieber's Auto (Izzy's place) painted on the wall adjacent to the car lot is still there, Izzy's building (Value-Rated) is still there, the Army/Navy Surplus signage is still there, and the WROH radio logo is still on the building where the radio station was. This logo features the water tower. The tower frame itself, which was made of cardboard, was dismantled following filming.

Fact is, that while the production and the set dressing is obviously long gone, the locations in town and buidings which initially drew Demian Resnick, Martin Whist and, ultimately, JJA to Weirton are still there. I think it would be of great interest to movie tourists to see these locations while the film is still in theaters.

The point of the brochure is not to mislead folks into thinking the sets are still there---the intention is to show folks what the sets looked like during production and encourage them to come and see spots that have now become iconic. With the brochure in hand, you will have no problem identifying the locations. Especially all you ARGers.

Ironically, at the moment, Weirton is experiencing a once-in-a-generation water outage. Personally, I blame the events (SPOILER ALERT) of the film's last minute. So if you come now, BYOBottled water.

Now that you mention it - the cemetery is one of the places that looks the same. I didn't open the shed's garage doors when I was there yesterday. I wonder if the interior of the shed looks the same as it does in the movie. Now that would be a real tourist attraction.

no. I was thinking it wouldn't hurt tourism if they were to just add a grave marker for us arg fans to visit even if it isn't official.

The Top of WV Super 8 brochure has some great pictures from the movie shoot and set. But I don’t think we’re doing a service to the area by saying that many of the locations still look like they do in the brochure or movie. It’s misleading. A lot of the signs have been removed. A couple of the businesses that have returned to normal aren’t family type businesses. One of the buildings has been remodeled and another is no longer with us. Water tower – what water tower?

Can a person come to Weirton and the surrounding area looking for a Super 8 connected visit? Sure. Take the brochure and the tour and compare and reminisce about the movie. Visit the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center, which has some movie connected memorabilia and other interesting local relics. I would love to see a boost in the local economy through tourism, but we need to be careful. The set locations certainly are recognizable, but if we pull a bait and switch by telling potential tourists that many of the locations look the same – when they come here and see something different, it’ll hurt the local tourism industry in the long run.

I don't see Dr. Woodward's grave marker behind the toolshed at the graveyard on the brochure. I think you should add it. Wink

Hello from Weirton, WV! As you may know, our town (and surrounding areas) was used as the principal location for the West Virginia portion of the filming.

Our local museum director and our state film office have worked together to produce a brochure guiding visitors to the locations used, many of which still look as they did during filming.

Hey, I live in "Lillian" which is actually called NEW LEBANON.
The town has no rail road tracks. Never did.
In The movie, it looks more like downtown West Carrolton (20 min away)...which would make more sense cause there are alot of rail road tracks that have been there forever.

wiki is a pile of shit it dosent list a few cities that i can think of off the top of my head like the city i live in or the city that an awesome local strip club is in, so i most def. would not be using this as a reliable source of information at all.

Watching the trailer to the Super 8 movie it shows Lillian just north of West Alexandria right off of 35. I live just 20 minutes from there...I feel like going out there and seeing if I can find something. Razz

I still think the dates are noted as the date the dog was found. I guess if they were trying to calculate the time it took for them to travel a distance then they would mark the date they went missing. Just seems to me that they would mark the found location with the date they were found. Just my initial feeling ya know?

You're right, the further these dogs are the greater the date. If we had the distance of this map and when the earliest dog left. We could estimate when these dogs started leaving
