the tray is plastic. the "chip" inlay is metal with very nice paint job. as for an actual usable chip... may need total reinventing...

This is pretty cool. I'm in too. Looks like if you wired up a SMD LED to a button battery or the like on the back, you could get it to emit a cool glow...
