The Day Flynn Went Missing

I'm not sure if this belongs here, and I don't feel like starting a new thread, but on what day did Flynn go missing? So far, I think he went missing on Decmber 26-27, 1989. This is assuming the movie takes place on December 17, 2010 (the release date of the movie) and subtracting Flynn's logon time shown on his "office" computer (20:11:20:16:22:16:35, from what I can remember).

I liked how his first hint that he wasn't really where he appeared to be was when he reached for his LED flashlight, and it wasn't there anymore.

Neville Page (character Designer, Specialty Costume Designer, Prop Design on Tron Legacy) mentioned that Sam's leather jacket changes when he is transported onto the grid. In the "real" world, the jacket is natural leather, on the grid it becomes a synthetic (shiny) leather. It's a subtle change, but it's there.

The fireworks above the game grid arena had dead on Bit shapes. I'm sure that was intentional.

did anyone else think that they were slapping at Star Wars when Sam first gets his lightcycle baton and he swings it like a lightsaber and asks what he does with it? (and then Jarvis replies, "I'll give you a hint...not that.", asserting this ain't no Star Wars)

also i didnt know where to put this, but there were numerous parallels between the beginning of the film and later in the film:

When Quorra and Sam escape from the Arena Sam says "We're not gonna make it" and they make it. Then Quorra replies with "Made it." They switch lines when they jump of of the tower on the Rectifier.

In the flashback Tron gets knocked down and says "Flynn go!" and Flynn runs away. When Sam and Quorra fight Rinzler on the Rectifier she gets knocked down and says "Sam go!" and instead he stays and fights (To me this means that Clu would have been brought down during the fight in the flashback if only Flynn stayed to fight).

There's the whole helicopter spotlight/Recognizer spotlight parallel.

One last one that I didnt catch the first time was that during the flashback they never show Clu actually strike Tron with the disc...he just thrusts it toward Tron and it cuts to Flynn's reaction. In the scene in front of the portal when Clu discovers he has Quorra's disc and not Flynn's he recoils the disc and appears to almost kill Flynn (and in the same manner as he did to Tron in the flashback) but instead he smashes the disc into the ground. Seems like that's what he did during the fight with Tron as well.

Alsoooo, just a theory about how Clu was going to move everything out of the grid (aka my rebuttal to everyone saying it was absurd). When Clu placed Flynn's disc in that podium in the Rectifier, the entire ship's circuitry got brighter. I believe that when the disc was placed in the podium, everything on the ship (including inanimate objects) gained the identity of Flynn. If the server "read" the ship as Flynn, it would spit it out of the Shiva laser.

Re: 'Bits' in the pad

I posted this elsewhere... they're not the same geometric shape as the neutral bits, they're only reminiscent. The closest most recognizable shape here is the wooden desktop puzzles - a rhombic star

When I was watching the film, the "bits" seemed to be simple repainted Rubik's Stars. Now I'm wondering if maybe they weren't just solid shapes for the film. I thought they were something like a Tetraminx/Pyraminx or Alexander's Star, but they're not. Nor are they any of the dozens of variations listed here (I don't think) I had a clear picture of them in my mind but have looked at so many variants, I'm not sure, now. Can anyone confirm if they are or aren't an existing Rubik's variant?

What were the two figures that CLU was looking at in Flynn's place? I seemed to think they were limited edition gold/silver Rubik's Snake/Twists put into a star pattern.

Am I misremembering those things originally? Could they not be shaped in that star-like pattern?

I know that this is old news, but I have an old rubik's snake on my coffee table that I play with while watching tv and you could not make those shapes with it.
Sorry for the late response but I was just excited to know!

Maybe I'm mis-remembering things, but it just occurred to me that the little geometric shapes on the mantle of Kevin Flynn's 'hideaway' looked like tiny cubes made of bits... like they were stacked in a 2x2x2 pattern.

Which means a total of eight bits, connected together.

THEY WERE BYTES! Laughing

That would be Journey - Separate Ways

Followed of course by Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams

Yes, I was enjoying the music in this film almost too much. Last time I got into the music in a film as much was Watchmen - but you had to be the right age in that part of the 80s to get it (like Zack and I were).

Hey, can anyone tell me what song was playing on the jukebox right when Sam started it up? It seems like someone said it was Journey, but I don't listen to much of their stuff so I couldn't identify it....

I wouldn't be concerned, but one of my friends asked me about it, so now I'm turning to you guys. *insert obvious star wars geek "you're my only hope" reference here Razz *

I'm fairly certain this has probably been posted in other threads, but just in case....

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I couldn't help but laugh with glee when Kevin says to Sam "The only winning move is not to play!"

So, with the TRON poster in young Sam's room... does that mean that in that world, TRON was made into a movie too? Or a video game, created by Kevin? I thought that was odd when I saw it.
It's a game.
Right, but isnt that Bruce on the poster?

No. It's Tron. Wink

Besides, any resemblance to Alan Bradley can be easily explained in-world... after all, as was explained in an online video interview (shortly before the Wondercon Press Conference), Alan explained that Kevin Flynn occasionally called HIM 'Tron', much to Alan's confusion. Then, when Flynn decided to start production on the video game "Tron", he probably directed the art production to use Alan's likeness (or at least similar to it) for all promotional materials surrounding the game.
