What were the two figures that CLU was looking at in Flynn's place? I seemed to think they were limited edition gold/silver Rubik's Snake/Twists put into a star pattern.

Am I misremembering those things originally? Could they not be shaped in that star-like pattern?

That may be in some movie sense, but they were also actual 80s toys that weren't Tron-related. I need some of the older folks around here to help me out. I've seen those things.

I'm pretty sure you can make that shape with this (or two of these):

And I know I've seen them in silver & gold, whatever they are.

As someone posted before, the ARG elements really enriched my viewing of the film. Although I left as soon as the credits rolled (didnt want to wait in a massive line to get my phone back). Was there anything at the end of the credits? I heard someone mention a nod to Hall H of comic con?

I don't know how long the events were planned before hand, do you? All I can do is base my analysis on the facts at hand, and the chronology of events. The 89 logo appears in the trailer before the ARG. That trailer utilized scenes shot months before that.

The 89 Forever logo is so obvious in the film, with no explanation, and yet they so specifically refer to it when Garret Hedlund did the video for the Operation Tron event. Also note that the parachute in the film is not that used for Operation Tron. As for being back in '09 - 42E did the '09 Flynn's Arcade event. Back then, all we had was the FX teaser.

The Pitcell event was back in Feb 2010, that is where the first official trailer was released. That trailer features the scene with Sam on the bike, the 89 sticker can be seen on the back of his helmet. If I recall correctly this was before the ARG utilized the 89 logo. The first mention in the ARG of "89" is during Operation Tron in early April 2010 and later in April with the attempt to locate Sam in Rio Fiamente, Brazil, which is how we received the 89 pin and stickers.

I think the 89 logo, was faintly on the back wall/door of Sam's hideout apartment as well, either that or I was seeing things.

also did everyone catch the black hole poster in young Sam's room?

Another Sequel 28 years in the making?

I have a bit of a chicken/egg quandry about the symbols and items we saw n the film that were prominent in the ARG events. The 'sector' being basically a EOLC coaster with a middle seemed like something the ARG folks got to make based on knowledge of things in the film. We also knew about a new version of Encom OS, something never really talked about in the trailers or lead up to the film. What I really wonder about is the 89 Forever logo - there was nothing specifically said about it in the film. No explanation (which of course we DID get in the ARG). That symbol appeared at a VERY early point in the ARG, so I tend to wonder if that was created more for the ARG and incorporated into the film as a nod.

I wondered the same thing. I seem to recall they finished filming back in 2009 and spent most of 2010 working on the FX? While it would be cool if elements of the ARG found their way into the movie, I think it was more about Studio Marketing feeding 42 Entertainment assets from the movie and 42 Entertainment going to town with them.

However it was done, being part of the ARG really made viewing the movie a richer experience for me.

I completely geeked out when I saw the credit at the end to Hall H! I think I heard my voice in the crowd in the disc wars sequence! Laughing

It was fun seeing all the ARG elements peppered throughout TL. There's the obvious inclusion of the 89 symbol on the back of Sam's motorcycle helmet. I noticed that his apartment was made from a Dumont shipping container. Dumont being the Tower Guardian from the original film.
One of my favourite "easter eggs" was the addition of Dillinger Jnr. I've read complaints that this is an obvious set up for a potential second sequel. I have no trouble with this at all.

I saw so many things that we saw in the arg. I totally felt like I was part of the movie. From all the symbols and logos, to the coaster, to the arcade, and i loved the end of line club. almost identical to san diego CC. Awsome!!

There seemed to be quite a few for Star Wars as well.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
My favorite was Flynn reprogramming one of the programs along the lines of force mind trick, then having to whack him across the head for the reprogram to kick in.
