Just to add to the confusion/brainstorming, what if the "it" in the movie reaches out and affects Josh's mind in some way, blocking out what really happened, and only now, with his mother's death, and his obsession with "Rare" fish (that seem to possess some rather terrifying attributes if contained/exagerated within the Scariest thing that (whomever it is) ever saw), and perhaps these memories have "reactivated"--possibly trying to resurface from his subconscious to his conscious state of perception?

IncidentCloverfield
Ah maybe we will see him and his mother get evacuated, (Kinda like CEOT3K when Roy's wife and kids leave.) shortly after the train accident and Joshs dad stays behind to deal with this problem, and later the whole incident turns to be a cover up. Maybe later in the ARG we will learn the "official story" of Josh's dads demise, but in the film we will see the "Real Story"...To me the ARG gets good when everyone begins brainstorming and my gears in my head start turning...

Well one reason might be that if Josh was in the film in 1979 and watched them chase an alien around, wouldnt he know what the fuss was all about with the film and cannister with 3 dots.. He seems to have no idea about their connection to the past..

I'm inclined to agree with gramma, in that Josh may very well be not only the character in the ARG, but in the film as well.
If I were JJ, and perhaps in some alternate universe I am, I can't imagine Team JJ doing the same old thing that was done prior--Jamie was at best a cameo in Cloverfield--why repeat yourself?
Why NOT have Josh as both part of the Arg and the film?

also associated press report supports this by....
Residents in Weirton Heights got letters informing them Paramount Pictures plans to shoot a movie called "Darlings" in their neighborhood. It revolves around a 14-year-old boy and is set in a steel town in 1979.
that casting call was for "Darlings/Super8" - so if they keep the names Josh, Collin and Natalie - Josh will not be an ARG-only character

supposedly that casting call was for a movie call Little Darlings (http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=29639), but, as stated, maybe the Little Darlings is the new Cheese.
I think that "Little Darlings" or simply "Darlings" was a red herring for the casting call.
IIRC the casting call was for "Darlings". I think media outlets attached 'Little' to the title because Bad Robot is supposedly working on a remake of Little Darlings. Later reports said that Weirton, WV residents even received letters stating that "Darlings" would be filming soon.
Simply put, yes, "Darlings" is the new Cheese. (Can probably add "Wickham" to that list as well.)

Seeking 13-14 year old Boys & Girls for the lead roles in a new Paramount feature film. No previous acting experience is necessary, but must have great energy and a wonderful sense of humor and thoughtfulness.
JOSH: Male 13-14. Josh is cute, but could be on the scrawny side – definitely not the school jock. Loveable, empathetic, smart and interesting. Must have a great sense of humor. Should have a Midwestern feel.

Yes, I also think, Josh will be only an ARG character, other as his father, who imho will play a significant role. Perhaps.
I actually don't know, whether his father is one of the kids witnessed the train crash. Because otherwise the desappearance of his father and also of other fathers may happen many many years later (as they logically set their children in the world). Well, this sounds a little bit Steven Kingish: the secret knowledge in a circle of childrenhood friends, which is activated long time after the happenings. (Oh, I feel my English becomes weird, gotta go more E.E. Cummings, lol)

Slinky,
Right, in fact I almost expect Josh to respond to Mysteio as "Master" or how about "Masterio?"
lol... there's no way I would be Myseterios Biaatch without knowing what was going on.. Josh is totally in the dark.
Anybody else think, at this point, Josh is the "Jamie Lascano" of Super 8 i.e. character won't even be in the movie?

Brylcreem can
The audio file seems to indicate someone searching for a package of Brylcreem -- anything to the notion that the can seems like the right size to hold a reel of 8mm film?

NOC14672;
Good point; I've been over that comment a number of times, but just failed to recall it based upon this last chat business.
It's certainly possible that that's what Mysterio meant--I guess the way he's treated Josh has so burned my buns I can't see straight!
Thanks
