well im assuming from the trailer that the train crash leads to the monster escaping we know there is a monster from the video posted on that guys vfx blog were he says hes making the monster the kids probably filmed the train crash and caught the monster in the footage maby josh hasn't found the tape maybe its hidden somewhere in an item that josh found (possably the missing listing) as we now know were deling with the moden day with an mp3 being posted it may even have been transferred to a memory card/stick cd etc for easyer hiding

*my take on the audio log

sorry diffident see him back (or see it backwards)
if we had an image

Yeah! Yes, that's it! The film, the super 8 film is perhaps the central theme in the movie. It's everything about this "super 8" original, which was once filmed by children, and now people are searching for it. And Josh actually found it (without to know, what's this about)!

The whole puzzles seem for me to get slowly the form of the "super 8" as middlepoint of the story. I mean, like in Cloverfield: the monster was surely central, and the party people too, but the cassette with the recordings was the actuall narrator, it was also in the movie focus.

So perhaps Josh found the film now. And he saw there something (train crash? - or something completely different... perhaps was train assault just a consequence of something, or the cause of someting).

I mean, even the working title of the movie "super 8" is literally shouting to us about it Smile

P.S. And it was surelly already said, but... Perhaps the fathers of Josh, Sarah and Clive had something to do with the same story, since, you know already:

Josh wrote:
Sarah didn’t know her dad growing up, either. We have a lot common. Itswas pretty funny. and Clive scoffed too. his dad was a forest ranger and just never came back one day. I think cive might’ve made that story up, now that I think about it. probably Sarah didn’t by it. (link)

And Josh begins to see some connections, Sarah and Clive still don't see.

heres my thoughts maybe the recording is as people have said are the people looking for josh im assuming the person/s writing the "hidden" messages (printout) aren't the same people on the audio file as they surly of just used one or the other.
now on to who's who maybe joshes dad was the kid who made the film if hes 14 in 1979 (taken from the casting calls) in 2010 that makes joshes dad 44/5
so if he had josh in his 20's josh could easily be in his 20's
the person whos contacting josh may be another one of the kids that were filming and knows were the film is hidden probly with all the stuff josh tried to sell assuming joshes dad is still alive he may be in hiding

Could the conversation be between the people looking for Josh and referring to the film footage that he might have (if he had any he can't play it). It would tie in with the Printout.

Gah - just noted Kosmo said the same thing just as i had finished posting Smile

I think Mysterio was already aware of Josh and Josh's father before first contact. I think Mysterio has a good idea of where to find Josh's Dad already, and he may already be working for who ever it is that is hiding/holding him... and that he has inside information and in return he wants something (probably the film) from Josh to hide the evidence of the alien.

So Josh's Dad could be the train driver? working at the air force base? One of the voices we hear on the orrigional trailer? Maybe the two voices are Mysterio and Josh's Dad? Or Mysterio and Josh's Dad were friends or worked together and Mysterio has to get Josh's fathers watch to him, which he has been carrying up his arse for the last 20 odd years.

FilmEdge, yes, you may be right about the hints hidden in the mothers belongings. I am just always too paranoid, and thinking about a double-conspiracy: which were - since we don't know anything about Mystero, we don't even know, whether he wants to help Josh to find his father, or just want to destroy the last proofs of something still remaining in possession by Josh (and just playing the anonymous helper).

I suppose, we will soon need to look for some new places to search. Or we just have to find more hints to crack the STIES console.

What is 100% for sure - and you are right about it - Mystero knows about Joshs father more, than Josh self.

I'm happy about this update, and about the whole progress of the story - they don't let us be demotivated by the lack of updates - this times PMs are really cool. Can't wait for more. *going to write about the things in my blog*

P.S. I think more and more about that "They're looking in the wrong place". Perhaps it's about people in the mp3 file. So perhaps is the mp3 file an observation of the observers, who observes Josh Minker and his conversations with Mystero, who now is observing their observers. Kinda...

Okay, cleaned up a bit. The computer tone type thing disappears at 7-8s but that's due to the noise removal-Can hear it fine in the original.

“Sorry,?keep that.”

“If we/he had any, he can't play on it.”

“You think there's any of that now?”

Some observations/proposals to add:

Mysterio's message seems to imply Josh's father is still alive, which certainly means he wasn't the guy driving the truck which rams the train back in '79. Good to know.

On the other hand, he's been missing for a while it appears, and under circumstances that Mysterio has been following/monitoring/researching since his disappearance (assumed since he thinks he knows where Dad is now to offer Josh clues/help on finding him). And his comment seems to imply someone else is looking for someone/something related to Dad or the event.

Also, if "they're looking in the wrong place", clearly they use too long a stick for the Staff of Ra while measuring in the Map Room! They'll never find the Lost Ark that way! Very Happy But seriously...

Kosmo, I don't read it that Josh's mother's items are or contain something which shouldn't be released to the public. Rather that Dad may have left clues to the mystery in/on those items — thus selling them to strangers would be a disaster in solving the mystery, scattering the clues to the winds and/or basements of the buyers.

"If you are who I think you are" implies that Mysterio isn't 100% sure Josh is Dad's son, but if it he is, there seems to be good reason why Josh would be looking for him in some capacity. Perhaps not actively searching for him daily, but certainly harboring some curiosity/intent to learn what happened to his missing father (as one can easily expect from a boy in that instance).

Think back to Roy Neary in CE3K — after contact, he became obsessed with learning the answer to "it", not even sure of what "it" is. But does he immediately hop in his car and drive around looking for Devil's Tower? No, he starts building models in his house in an attempt to define a meaning even to his question of "What does it mean?" Likewise, Josh may not have had any concrete clues to pursue once his dad disappeared, so his departure became a nebulous, nagging mystery rather than a daily, active quest to solve a puzzle. And if Dad worked for Top Secret military in any way, then his disappearance would have been shocking but also 'part of the program' as in part of the risk he signed on to take. So in effect, Dad could have disappeared with the Gov't providing no real answer to Josh or Mom (too secret), leaving Josh little room to pursue the truth but still wanting one day to learn it.

Mysterio may be a conduit to information which might re-open Dad's disappearance "case" in conjunction with the larger mystery/incident.

Yes this sounds reasonable.
Josh finds in the old things belonging to his mother some weird documents, and probably he is searching for his father already for years. So he asks everywhere for answers (like in that conspiracy forum), and he gets an answer, from that Unknown. He knows, where Joshs father is. (Obducted by aliens? in Bermuda triangle? in a government warehouse? - your choice).

Anyway, the Unknown, or Mystero perhaps belongs to government or some instututions which were involved in disappearing of - or search for - Joshs father. So he is affraid, about salings of the mothers belongings. Since there are perhaps some things, which shouldn't get to the public. Like time machine in the Horse watches or so.

According the audio file: I am afraid, our poor Josh is now under observation by the government!

Things that make me go "hmmm."

OK, here's some things that strike me as odd regarding the printout.

We have Josh (presumably) writing Mysterio:
“I've been quiet. PLEASE – what is this about??”
Mysterio replies:
“If you're who I think you are, it's about your father. I'll tell you more when I can, but you must take down those sales listings. Anything you found may be important.”
Josh replies:
“Ok, I took everything down. Who do you think I am? What do you know about my father?
I don't know who you are but I'm getting really tired of these games. If you actually know anything, come out and say it. Otherwise, I'm not going to respond to your cryptic messages.
Are you still there?? Hello??
Mysterio replies:
“They're looking in the wrong place. But I still found you easily. If you want to find your father, we'll have to be more careful. I'm working on it.”

When Mysterio first alludes to Josh's father, it's prefaced by the comment “If you're who I think you are.” Later Josh logically asks, “Who do you think I am? What do you know about my father?” So Mysterio, in his reply to Josh's ultimatum offers this: “If you want to find your father, we'll have to be more careful.
At what point has Josh indicated that he is looking for his father, or that that is an issue with him?
If Mysterio has been following the HLM blog, it is only on the August 21 post that Josh says in part, “Sarah didn’t know her dad growing up, either.”
It is either a grand leap that Mysterio guesses that Josh is, in fact, desirous of finding his father, or Mysterio knew very early on that Josh was the one “who I think you are.”

And Mysterio's comment, “They're looking in the wrong place” was in some ways a little eerie. Almost as though Mysterio's broke through the fourth wall and acknowledging that ARG-ites, -ettes, -onauts, or whatever are seeking the facts regarding Josh!
I'm new to ARGville, but has there been an ARG where characters in “their” reality suspect ARG-o-whatevers of interloping and playing the role of “Big Brother” or some intelligence gathering cabal?

edit: after yet another liste, the mp3 file sounds almost like what I've heard on a passenger train, including the "dings" at around 4 or 5 seconds. And if it is a train, the dog could have been a service animal.

Here are my thoughts. I think Josh Minker is the son of the main character in the movie. Josh's father was not around for the son and the reason for that has something to do with the movie of the alien. When Josh's Aunt died (right?) he found the movie and realized his dad did it. Now, he is searching for answers. I do think Hook, Line and Minker is in game. Josh blogs about his dad and then STIES updates more stuff on dad. I think the "they are looking for you in the wrong place" is the Airforce trying to ge the tape back from Josh. Maybe I am way off. Your thoughts!
