train
impossible
I know this is a buzzkill and I'll never post anything on this site again but I have to say this. I really enjoyed Super 8 but I used to be a railroad engineer. Not that it really matters but I can tell you from experience that if a train, had what it looked like from the wreckage, about 20-25 loads of shipping material, hit a pickup truck going at a speed I estimated to be about 40 miles an hour, the train would have knocked the truck clear off the track and not slowed a tick. There couldn't possibly be a derailment. It would be like a Hummer hitting one of you guys on your BTX. Nothing would be left and you certainly wouldn't survive the impact. I once hit a semi. I had 97 loads going about 27 mph and not only did I not derail, I barely felt the impact. We saw it coming and just ran outside the cab to the back of the engine. It took a quarter mile to stop in emergency breaking. At 150 tons, a GP-38 by itself, the standard industrial shipping engine, going 40 mph could knock a pickup off a track and keep on going without flinching. Who cares! It's fun to get lost in a movie. It's why we watch them. And I really like all the posts investigating every nuance of the movie. Keep it up!

Hey,
Thanks a lot! Although we have a search engine here, it's not always the most easy to use, and I went through countless pages before asking your assistance.

As I'vesaid before, I appreciate you efforts in compiling, and keeping up this "monster."
There is one thing that I've tried finding, and it's relevance to the game may be more important as things go on.
On the HLM site there are 5 posted comments--I remember the first initials of the commenters by thinking about the acronyms they form, DREAM or ARMED, but there was one other that was up briefly and it referred to super 8 (or eight) in the post. I though to myself at the time, if this is IG, why would they even allow something so blatant to be posted. I can't find that comment, and was curious if among your info you had it. I can't recall the poster, but for some reason, "Gordon" comes to mind, though I've used the search function and can't find it.
Any help you can offer?

But I think Josh at least uses the terminal now.
Also, for what it's worth, when Josh posted a blog and said he'd be less busy in a week, well an update occurred. Also when Josh said he'll think about the tank and decide in a couple of days, two days later STIES was updated. That's the only sort of correlation I can think of off the top of my head. |
Agreed - Which is why I stuck it in the Solunar calendar thread. Still very speculative, where as the timeline (image) attempts to be an objective reference point.

Correlation between rare fish calendar & STIES time update
Multi;
Thanks for your recent update on the solunar calendar. Including the names of the months makes very easy to read/understand.
I didn't convey my thoughts as well as I intended when I suggested a correlation chart. In looking at some past posts, the one that ladywyntir posted here:
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=29801&start=870
blog vs. rare fish calendar
is on the order of what I meant, though not for correlation with Josh's blog and the rare fish calendar, but as I had said, “if the 'puter wizards out there could determine the precise time that the printout was updated, and then see with the particular Fish Spotting calendar, if there's a link.” She was able to determine someway the precise time that Josh's blog was updated.
What I was wondering was if there could be a way to determine such a precise time that the STIES site updates (as opposed to when one of us notices it has been updated and we announce it to the world). I know we are aware of the dates of update for STIES, but it is the time STIES is being updated I was curious about correlation with the fish calendar.
Thanks again,
Xeno

I did that here last month but haven't updated recent events:
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=728212#728212
If felt to be helpful I could add an ongoing one to the attachments. I'll add the new ones in later today to see if there's a pattern but I wasn't overly excited on first glance.
Otherwise the IG timeline attachment is frequently updated (last being yesterday), and I try to keep STIES et al., to the lower half and blog to the upper so you can get a feel for the correlation.

Correlation between rare fish/Josh's postings
Multi;
I appreciate your continued exceptional efforts on keeping up with what's what.
I haven't seen this on the sticky, but to perhaps get a feel for when the next time Josh responds to Mysterio (as the STIES printouts have, with the exception of the first, been Josh asking a ?/making a statement) is there a way of noting a correlation with each month's Rare Fish Spotting Guide, and when we note a STIES printout?
It would be nice if the 'puter wizards out there could determine the precise time that the printout was updated, and then see with the particular Fish Spotting calendar, if there's a link. For example, in looking backwards at when the poster noted there had been an update to the printout, which I believe was Sept 09, 2010 7:37 pm, I've tried to see if there has been a cue to Mysterio as to when to check out the simulator. I mean, Josh and Mysterio must have set up (you'd think) some code as to when to check things out. What do you think? Do we have a time-line that can show this. I've checked other sites with no success.
Thanks again for your efforts,
Xeno
