Living about three hours away from argfest 2010, this isn't my year to propose, probably...
But in the interest of making it easier for those that are, is there somewhere that the prior winning (or even not) proposals are displayed? I'm not sure if there's too much personally identifying info on them or something to make that impossible, but a winning form would probably be more informative than an empty one.
And hello everyone that I met this year!

You don't want to do after SXSWi - that's when the music portion of SXSW starts and the whole town is a nightmare. Finding a hotel? Forget it. But, before SXSWi is usually not when Spring Break runs, so that's a problem for those with kids. This is an idea that was tossed around previously but the logistics make it pretty tough to work out. I dunno - would it be a huge deal to have ARGFest during the school year?
Also, not sure if there's enough time to start planning 2011 in Austin if it's to be in March.
And there are no tiki bars in Austin.

As for Austin, I wonder if we could do an ARGFest piggyback off of SXSW? Either before or after? It might be a way to get some speakers that will be in Austin anyway and maybe a broader audience. |
I've yet to go to SXSW and I was thinking about it next year. I think I'd find it difficult to travel to both SXSW and ARGFest next year, this would be perfect!

I can think of four of them within the Miami area.

Hmmm. I know we had ARGFest in San Francisco in March. Do we have to stay with a summer date? Just throwing that out. Anyway, I really liked San Francisco too. And I don't mind repeating cities.

I know. I downloaded the application and was going to do it, but I couldn't think of enough
good
convincing things to say about Miami.

I don't think there's going to be a "vote" for the next ARGFest location. Last year the planning committee took in structured proposals for ARGFest locations. If they do the same thing this year (they may not - we will have to wait and see), and you want ARGFest in your city (or any city), then get ready to get boots on the ground, send in your proposal, and do the work to make it happen. That will mean locating venues, planning and coordinating events with the committee, etc. (Nighthawk, this means you will need to do more than "lobbying" for a Miami ARGFest. Just sayin'.)
thebruce, I think it would be awesome if different regions had their own local ARGFests, and I don't see why that can't happen. Especially in Europe and Canada! It opens up more options - someone who can't travel to one might be able to go to another, especially if the events are held at different times of the year. (If this happens, and if I have the funds, I'd likely attend more than one event in a year.) We do this in another community I belong to, when we celebrate the anniversary of the founding of our site. We hold the events/parties at different times, so people can attend both if they want, in North America and in Europe.

As one of several 'Canadians' read: Not a real canadian but one living there nonetheless, I would like to lodge my vote for Toronto.
That being said, I can understand the technical problems that may arise because of this. I'll be happy to go anywhere within the states or canada really
EDIT: Forgot to mention how awesome it was to meet everyone at ARGFest btw. It was my first and I had an excellent time. Great to put names to faces.
