Alrighty folks, Time to hammer that PDP-11 with codes. golden ratio for one

see if that number spits out any new results

lets try to mount a device again.

Of course, we need to see what else has changed, does any other command now work against a file again.

The "SOLD" note got me thinking that maybe whoever took the picture is a seller of random items. (Think of a modern day ebay or craigslist seller.) Maybe putting out ads in local papers or the Penny Press. I think he/she has a collection of random items either through yard/estate sales, swap meets or relatives (living or deceased). Part of this collection is the hat of course and now part of the STIES film. He/she sold the red hat and slapped the note on the box as a reminder not to sell it to anyone else. That also explains the packaging supplies. I mean the bubble wrap could have came out of the box, and the scissors would have been used to open the box. But why have packaging tape when opening the box?

Long story short, he/she is sending the hat w/pin (and maybe something else??) to Beckley, WV.

It's the cross piece of a window. The stuff you see on the left is the reflection off of a window.

"Something May Have Reactivated"

I was really hoping that the "something has reactivated" meant that there could be more codes opened up at the end of the PDP-11 simulation. I put all the possible codes through and nothing else has opened up. But I couldn't put some codes in because I think the keys have changed. 1=Y, 2=N, and 0=ENTER.

I'm almost positive these numbers didn't do that before. Anyone else notice this? I'm just frustrated that I can't try some of the codes it gives me. Like A5RSR1 can only be entered as A5RSRY.

((I did a quick forum search on "1 Y 2 N 0 ENTER" and found nothing, even though this seems obvious))

i dont know why everybody is speculating so much again into every small pixel or shadow in that new printout Very Happy

by flipping the picture we are able to read "sold" on the yellow post-it sticker >>> so we get the number 25801

we get a proof that person A communicates with person B over the pdp-11 (new text with the updated simulator-desktop printout)

Person A proofs to Person B that he has the old Super8 Film Material in his hands

Person B answers to this proof inside the same new document

The Super8 Filmmaterial has Audio - proof by the two lines on the right of the projection

Person A is using an super8 projector (not overhead) - look at the dust flakes on the top of the projection - the film material is moving "from top to bottom" so to speak

the red hat is just an reference to spielberg again - think about all the red stuff spielberg always has in his movies (for e.g. the girl with the red cloak in schindlers list)

we have a set of negatives/positives on top of the projection - when flipped something like 2 people holding hands can be seen

we have standard pushpins and an red colored pencil on that glass desktop

do we have to wait again weeks for a new clue?

when do we get the connection to the soundfile?

or the rocketpoppincooper? Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Jeez, I get busy for a day and look what happens!

Now to read all this slowly and in detail to process what you've discovered so far... well done, all!

The "something may have reactivated" could be refering to us tinkering with the PDP-11 simulator via remoteaccess. I think the hat was clearly placed that way so we will need to recognize it later. The erased part on the brown box looks like a side speaker on an old tape/record player, i'm pretty sure my grand mother had something like this a while ago. It's probably just a lazy photoshop mistake. too late need sleep...

I was thinking the same thing, it looks like a speaker. At first I thought the boxy item was a type of file storage because of the folders on top but the more I look at it I think it's some type of electronic device. Perhaps a radio/receiver? Maybe for listening in on the military or the train transmissions? Or it could be equipment for measuring something that would require a speaker to indicate a detection? I have an old metal detector that has a similar looking speaker.

Anyone else think that the black marker with the red cap was used to mark the film?

BTW, great work everyone, the enhancements of the photo is phenomenal.

I think that's lipstick or a pen/marker. The red circle is actually attached to the black tubular item, and this is confirmed by the reflection below it.

Some more dates, the pushpins date back to 1900, so those are useless.
Bubble wrap however was invented in 1957, produced in 1960 and not likely to be available to consumers til much later. (that last bit is spec, but really I think it would take a few years for it to be found lying around someones floor right?)

ETA: Oh I see what you're referring to now, you mean ON the box type thing. I was confused because the inside of the circle does not look red to me at all, looks like a cut out.

The circle is a different color, probably red by the looks of it. I was trying to figure if it was perhaps something beneath the glass of the desktop, but I can't be sure. It does actually look to be a slightly different shade of the reflection it's sitting in, but it just looks like it fits right in too... Looks like it should sit right on the side of the dark object (an old printer? typewriter?) Not sure if this is something we should be looking at but sure is odd.

Lightened up a bit too, to show the difference in color

I believe this is one of those old-school reel to reel tape recorders. I haven't been able to find the model but it looks very similar to various others I've seen poking around on the net.

About the Hat ...
[SPEC]

It looks to me like the style of Sally Victor.

(Interesting read: http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,892459-1,00.html
From March 30, 1959)

Also Known as "Sally V."

My Grandmother owned quite a few of her creations.
