It also looks like it could be a pic of Kyle Chandler as a boy.
This is cropped from an Early Edition shot:

Well, well... look what I came across.
Boy guys... that video was merely for fun. I was making another video for a parody of "ET - The Return" and going through some original footage and was using that scene and it just reminded me of him. So, if anyone knows me from my cloverfield days, you'd know my style. if I'm going to do a vid, I'm going to do it up right.
So, with that said. I could have taken any shot of Elliott from the movie and did the same thing. I can do it with anyone and give the impression it is who that person is. I just enjoyed doing it and throwing it out there for all to see.
Now... here's the "hmmm" part. Who says it's not Elliott? Of course it's not even a real boy. It's computer generated clearly. But... if they use the actor's likeness in that shot, would he not need to get royalties or compensation? Maybe Steven S is just paying homage to his own work without being too direct.
Final note... no, I don't even think it's Elliott, but with E.T. turning 30... it just feels like a missed opportunity if it weren't.
Thanks for watching and I'll be putting out more Super 8 vids as I feel inspired. I've always said that if my videos make you go "hmmmmm" or something like "that's interesting"... then I've done my job.
Hey Ras..... good to see ya around still.

Howdy, MB!
Personally, I think the kid in the shot is Abrams' son, Henry!
You continue to produce superior work.
(And, you do realize, this is our first human contact?)

IT's already in the final stages of editing, I can assure you. There was way too much production value in the trailer. lol

What is in the final stages of editing? |
it's safe to say that super8 is in the final stages of production, or very close to it. movies are usually complete before trailers are made, i could almost bet my astronaut name on it. |
Actually you just lost your name then.
As he did with STAR TREK before, Abrams had this teaser trailer for SUPER 8 created specifically as a teaser to be shown in theaters a year before the feature's release.
This trailer contains NO production footage, as indeed production won't start until later this summer or fall.
Normally you'd be right about most trailers, but JJ doesn't do things normally.

Many films have trailers made before films are complete. One such case is the rob zombie Halloween remake. In several interviews he states that he had nothing to do with trailer for the film,Some trailers use stock footage or things that wont be in film.Just like many times the trailers for new films which are not complete often use theme songs from other fims. This happens alot in horror films.
So my point is that i dont think the trailer proves where they are with filming. But again this is my opinion. And i dont know any more then you guys:)

In most cases that's true. But marketing strategies have started to evolve over the past decade. Super 8 (from what we've been told) is in a surprisingly early stage of production considering its release date. It's not even known if shooting has started yet.
You may be right, but I wouldn't bet the house on it. This guy can crank out a finished product fairly quickly (meaning even if he hasn't started filming, he can still get it all done by the scheduled release date). And he has the clout to make a trailer despite having nothing in the can yet.

Well, it would probably be someone they knew or had previously under contract so they could use this pic with no contracts etc given that no cast has been hired for the trailer..
How about a childhood pic of JJ or SS? |
It comes out next summer... that would give them roughly about 14-16 months to cast, film, edit, and market the film.
