Source or serendipity?
So this weekend I was with friends and they showed me this new video game of the party variety. Goofy mini games, dancing, music beats, movie fixing, playing in traffic. Chaotic. Ridiculous.
Anyway, each player could pick an icon to represent them, goofy things like a lone sandal, a wig, a pair of underwear, an anvil. I picked a tooth with a hole in it. Not pristine but still: the obvious choice. What I didn't realize until after I picked it was that each icon had a nickname associated with it. "Captain Undies" for the underwear, for example.
| Spoiler (Rollover to View): |
| The tooth's nickname: Hollowhead.

1: Gymnopedies 3 - Erik Satie (gives me goosebumps every time)
2: Don't Stop the Rock - Freestyle
3: the music in the JI induction center video

Songs of Nonchalance
I'm interested in knowing what everyone's favorite "songs of nonchalance" are. By this I mean not so much the mix tape music and the like, but songs that you associate with the JI, the EPWA, Eva, the Savants, what have you.
I really only have three:
1. Don't Stop the Rock - Freestyle
2. Time Bomb - Beck (played at Eva's Memorial during the broadcast)
3. Gymnopedies 3 - Erik Satie
anyone else?

Good afternoon, fellow Nonchalants. On behalf of the newly-formed Nonchalant family known as the "NorthWest Seven," I greet you all and look forward to contributing to the Repository. I was "South," and I'm the only one in our group who posts on Unfiction.
Also the experience in that one labyrinthine place was AWESOME!

| The part where we were all blindfolded was super-intense and really well-done. One of our party did receive the hand-kiss, like you guys did, and we were all really into that section. A couple of our party members were having trouble keeping straight faces through the look-into-each-other's-eyes bit, but in all I thought it was a tremendous experience, even if we were missing a member. (I doubled-up on the being-led-around-blindfolded segment)

I'll let you know once we've made our mix tape and our story.

8 to 7 because they had someone fill in during their quest that then returned to their own group. 7 to 5 because they kicked out one of the members for no good reason (who has now joined a far better squad). i donno why the other person is gone. prolly kicked out too. so. yeah. welcome. |
Still awaiting approval on joining.

I think most of the questions have been answered, but I'll chime in on behalf of the Crossbones Crew:
| Spoiler (Rollover to View): |
| We used the golden mix tape we found during our romp through Oakland as a guide, and created a mix tape of our own. About 25% of our mix tape was original material, but the rest was just songs suggested by various members of our octet. We sprinkled in some interesting sound bites, added a snippet from a film, and even put a little bit of Eva in there, and voila, a mix tape. Our biography was much easier. We're time traveling pirates, you see, so we told the truth and that was more interesting than any fictional account we could have created.
|
And that's pretty much it.

UPDATE: I wrote to him myself. I hope he's staying dry.

Thank you Jason and superdilettante. We do indeed have a

I can do that. Also, I've found Terrance to be super-good about answering questions, but I'll take a stab at it.

Did you have 8 tracks of ambient sounds? Other sounds? Songs? Spoken word tracks? Did you remix the audio? Did you make a tracklist? Did you make a sleeve? Any other suggestions?
I'm not sure exactly how ours went out, but we figured we just needed to get essentially 8 ambient tracks in a zip file to him. That was inadequate, it appears. I'm happy to try again (ok, not HAPPY GLEE, but not GRR!) but I'd rather get it right this time.

| Spoiler (Rollover to View): |
We were a little literalist in our initial interpretation of "mix of found sound," too, but it was cleared up that it could be songs and really anything. It need not be all-original-material. In fact, you walked out of there with a great example, so hopefully everyone in your squadron got to listen to it.
That being said, those that have finished this part have also done some original material, both with ambient recordings and music (covers, original tunes, etc). Some of the other members of my group are musicians, so we have original stuff on ours, which is cool. But it doesn't have to be any more complicated than a nice mix of stuff you guys like. Regarding remixing: our group's mixer did some found-sound over songs stuff, some song-to-song transitions, but nothing complicated.
Other hints: we delivered ours in two files, of the appropriate length to fit on the sides of a (thing you got). Neither group came up with cover art in the mp3, initially, but my group's working on it. (A group can submit more stuff once they're in; we asked, Terrance confirmed.) We included a track list, not everyone has.
There's also the matter of your crew's story, which you didn't mention. Did you include that with your submission?
|
Hope that helps!
