So, I've been out of Cavern for a while, and I'm getting ready to venture back in the next day or so. Anyone else still playing?

nicko, pm me your preferred email address, and I will send one along!
edited to add: I finally got the fireflies for my Relto. I just have to make sure not to turn on the rain, when the time comes.
People were saying the physic were more difficult this time around, like when you have to move objects around to rest on weight plates or get fishing traps to rest properly between ledges of rock, but so far, it's been fairly easy to get stuff worked out. I remember in the Gametap incarnation not only having weird physics glitches, but audio would loop, as well. I would have tumbling rock noises, looping over and echoing until I signed out and signed back in again! Oy!
Much better now - the server is sweetly fast, and I am enjoying taking my time getting everything. Gira and Kemo are done. All that's left for the pillars is Kadish, which is difficult, puzzle-wise, but also extremely compelling for me, story-wise. Fascinating concepts are introduced in Kadish Tolesa about Writing Age Books and what Yeesha is able to do that no one else can. Good stuff.

If you joined the Guild of Maintainers (by picking up their T-shirt in Kirel), then of course you'll get a link. My Nexus has a link to the Writers' Pub instead, because that's the Guild that I joined. There is a round-about way that you can prove it to those non-believers: share your Relto book with them, then unlock your Nexus book on your bookshelf, and let them see what links you do have.

For all interested parties, my KI number is 01276171

Edit: Figured it out. Apparently, if you go to Kirel and grab a t-shirt off one of the tables, it will open a link to that Guild's Pub in the Nexus.

I visit the UO forums just enough that a few people recognize my name. Anyone is welcome to visit their 'hood and find players to run group puzzles with them, without being a member. I did join their 'hood for one day, but the incessant CHATTER on the KI just drove me nuts! I couldn't find any way to disable it -- even when I was in a private age, I saw messages popping up from a player in a different age talking with a player in yet another age, ugh! So I quit, found a generic DRC Bevin (with the courtyard clock that I like) and just use it for the few GZM markers. I don't even remember which garden book it has.
As for lag, there is still a small "update shudder", as if every few minutes the system does a pause to refresh the data over the network, but it is very brief. My biggest lag issues were solved with a new graphics card (and much tinkering with settings), and that improved both Uru and my experience with Free Realms. I'm a sucker for virtual exploration.
p.s. to spaceboy and Scott, pass along your KI numbers so we can hook up. Send it to my inbox if you don't want to make it public.

Alright, I created an unFiction Bevin. Anyone want an invite?
If not, I'll probably delete in about a week or so.
Especially considering all said above.

I joined the Uru Obsession Bevin, as there's always tons of people around when a Delin or Tsogal run is needed. I love helping out with those (and it was super-easy to get my rewards for those Ages, as a result).
I will be more than happy to get you into that 'hood if any of you like - just let me know when you see me in the Cavern, and I'll get you set up. It would help, too, to visit the Uru Obsession forums, to get an idea what the peeps are like there.
I am savoring my personal Ages, too, catherwood - I just made the jump to the main building (with the Wall) in Gahreesen. I am waiting 'til tomorrow to finish up the Journey there - I have that cloth bookmarked, and I just need to make the BIIIIIIG jump. When Uru first got its servers up and running, that Age was tricky to jump in, because of the lag freezing. Now? Piece of cake. Everything's very smooth.
FWIW, the Myst Online forums are your default go-to for immediate technical issues or for official messages from Cyan employees - RAWA has posted recently about the expectations the community can have regarding new content, bug fixes, and source packages, so it's worth a look-see and a read.
It's also a good resource for Mac users, or for Uru players who wish to play with others who want to find others who speak other languages from English.
From what Rand Miller has reportedly said, interest in the rebirth of Uru was surprisingly large, and the corresponding donations have also been impressive, so it's nice to know that this project is getting some positive potential growth in this model. All I know is, this incarnation has so little lag compared to when it was on Gametap, even with surges of activity and chatter in the City. I believe they're using Amazon's cloud severs, so they're definitely taking advantage of distributed networking to lessen the load. It shows.
I love being back.

Well, I just started. I'm sad to say that I never got into this game until now, though I always meant to. I'm really having fun, especially when I actually find other people.
I'm all for a UF Bevin. I might just take the initiative and create it tonight, if it hasn't been done already. The Bevin I got got assigned to is fairly dead.

You're welcome to create it. I created it last time -- read back thru the thread for "Unfiction-ARGN" mentions -- and it was a bit of a bother. We didn't use it all that much, but it was handy as a way to gather one category of buddies on the KI list. I used it also as a bit of advertising, by putting introductory info in a message on the 'hood imager, for anyone who found the name on the list in the Nexus.
Personally I don't think I would switch to another Bevin now, i'm comfortable where I am now. Plus, I hang out with you guys here and in chat enough as it is ;) But I will definitely add your number to my KI buddies the next time i vist.

I finally have my KI # 00292608
Have you joined a specific Bevin yet? (I still call them 'hoods in my head)
I've spent most of Saturday messing with new monitor settings. I'm running on the same computer I had for GameTap, but with a new monitor and graphics cards, which is taking some getting used to. I can be available to help with any group tasks, but I am taking time to slowly savor my personal Ages.
I'm enjoying the ambiant sounds a lot right now.

If you have Google Wave, there is a wave that is continually being updated by the community as to the status of the servers and sign-ups for new players.
https://wave.google.com/wave/#restored:wave:googlewave.com!w%252BXxmvLNZVA
I find it really useful to leave that wave open and see the changes over time. It's not a discussion Wave, but it has a link to one, where people can troubleshoot their connection issues on the fly. It's probably the best use of Wave I've seen thus far.
At any rate, I've picked up a few GZ markers towards calibrating my KI, finished most of Gahreesen, gotten a ton of Relto pages, finished up Teledahn last night, both Delin and Tsogal, and joined up with the Uru Obsession Bevin. Whew. And there's still so much more to do.
I know I'll need walkthroughs for the first part of Kadish Tolesa, that's for sure!
Ah, and it's so good to hear this music in context again. So soothing and amazing and ominous and joyful and sad. Yes.
ETA: Let me know if you would like a Google Wave invite. I have a bunch, so post here or PM me!

| I'm stuck at the Uru Launcher "Checking fFor patcher update." Doesn't seem to be actually downloading anything. Maybe waiting in line fFor a download or something. |
This sticky post on the official forum lists common problems and how to fix them.
http://mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=19371
In short, if the first check for the patcher update does not switch to the message that it is checking for other updates, kill the process, both as an application and a process in the Windows Task Manager. Then try again. I make the analogy to a telephone call-in contest, where you have to hang up and redial rather than listening to the busy signal -- the UruLauncher doesn't know that it has failed to make a connection to the server, so you have to manually hang up and try again.
I got as far as making my avatar and landing on my Relto last night, but I haven't had time to fetch my KI yet.
