i think i broke it
ok,

so when i fist got my isis for christmas it was working fine. i seemed to be on the right track to opening it...
at one point i was able to start unscrewing the halves.. i moved them 2-3 mm and there was a slight gap between the two halves and the placentas were about 2-3mm apart, but all of a sudden the ball locked up.. i tried to turn it the opposite way but it just closed the gap and got stuck even more.. now i can only hear the 3bb (on the top half) rolling around.. i cannot hear the bottom two.. i know for sure it is the 3rd bb.. this is because you can hear it get stuck to magnet and by hitting the ball you can hear it drop and roll around... i can even get the plunger to go halfway.. but from here i dont know what to do... the bottom two bb dont move or make a sound at all.. what happened?? is it broken??

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!

Your locking mechanism is engaged but the balls are locked in place.
Try twisting the opposite way whilst wearing rubber gloves for grip.

Should sort it out.


Sometimes the locking mechanism gets back in place while unscrewing it.... I had once with an Isis. My remedy was just to hit on a surface and luckily the mechanism just slit back. Had to do this because the main BB wasn't in the right place.

New mechanism...
Bought an Isis in Aug 2012. The new ones have a different locking mechanism. The two BBs in the bottom part are now more difficult to get in place. The old procedure won't work anymore.

I recently bought a used ISIS puzzle off ebay. The original Owner informed me she was never able to get it open. I was making progress with the puzzle, and the third BB ( think was were it needed to be) I felt the plunger, go down half way, I thought I had just solved the puzzle, I tunred it back face up and the two halfs began to unscrew. Then it locked up. The BB’s are silent and the Placentas are not lined up, for I was trying to unscrew the puzzle. I took a pic of what it looks like:

help
i really need some help on the isis puzzle. i opened the isis puzzle, and wanted to see the inside, i took the maze housing out (that silver thing) and looked around, when i was done looking, i put the maze housing back in, THE WRONG WAY. i skrewed the top half back on, and it locked on. now, the third ball bearing dosnt line up with the hole in the housing! is it impossible to fix?

I'm stuck and wondering if somebody could help me out. If i whirl my isis the plunger upwards the ball bearings won't stop rolling at any position. If I turn plunger downwards ball bearings will stop after whirling few times. Depressing the plunger doesn't do anything and it goes all the way to the bottom.

I almost got it opened once (got it turned about 0.5cm counterclockwise) but turned it back to the locked position and now I'm struggling to open it again. Thank you for helping!

Plunger is near the box (so down) i can hear a ball rolling and the punger goes down normally.
What I have to do now?

Got the Isis yesterday. After releasing the third BB I tried to swirl it through the maze for about an hour and realized that this was not going to happened. So I opened the puzzle with the bypass slamming trick. I then realized why I couldn't open it the normal way. The 3rd BB was not able to exit the maze and drop into the center hole. The machining of that part wasn't done right. If I dropped the BB into the center after I disassabled the puzzle the BB couldn't go back into the maze. Also in the bottom part only had one BB instead of two. And no, I did not lose one. Clearly my puzzle was a dud. Makes you wonder how many oeople have given up in frustration by not being able to open it the intended way.

OKAY, you've solved the ISIS puzzle and got your key and/or the code number inside. Your ego is boosted and you feel wonderful. That's great. Now there is another challenge to the puzzle. Resetting the puzzle so you can play it again or have your friends try to solve it.

There is a potential for locking the ISIS to make it "next to impossible to open again". And you don't want to spend money to send it to the factory for opening and resetting. Right? Correct. Here's the deal. I locked mine when resetting and figured out how to reopen without the third ball dropping from the magnet. It is brutal and hard on the hands, but I did it and don't care to do it again. More on that later. A solution for the problem too.

When resetting, you take the ball and drop it into the hole for the magnet to grab. Then you reset the other half's lock and gently put the ISIS back together making sure the holes line up. Then you gently turn the two halves to close it tight. Problem here. After you've opened this gem many times, the locking mechanism gets worn and will release and lock with the sllightest bump or vibration. If the holes line up and you've had an even 360 degree turn, all is well, just solve the puzzle as normal. BUT IF YOU DON'T get that 360 degree turn and it locks up at the 180 degree mark, then you're in trouble. Big trouble. the holes don't line up and the third ball will never drop into the maze so it can get to the center and act as an extension to the press down stem on the plunger. So now what do you do? You think you're screwed blue and tattooed. Wrong.

The solution is to open it without the plunger. Much more difficult than the normal way to open it. This is a delicate feat of force and turn at the exact moment. I'll describe.

Hold the ISIS upside down (plunger down). Forget the plunger now, it's useless. Swirl the ISIS to lock the two other balls in place in the now upper half. You don't hear them rolling. Now the trick. Take the ISIS in your right hand and in an upward motion, beat it against your left hand in a fast upward motion, so that the stopping inertia will compress the lock on the spring and then at the right nanosecond turn the ISIS halves to start to open it. Just get it to turn. Don't try to open it yet.

Now take the halves and rotate the remaining same direction to the 180 degree turn. This will line up the holes. Now you can resolve the puzzle in the normal method by smack, swirl and depressing the plunger.

Now remember I said "next to impossible". You did it. Now the trick to never get in this predicament again, is never reset the ISIS by dropping the ball in the magnet hole. Drop the third ball in the center hole of the maze and then screw it back together. If it locks up now, then the third ball is already there to reopen easily. After you get the puzzle halve fully turned together, just reverse swirl it a few times and the ball will find the magnet and pop up in the magnet hole/cavity.

Good Luck with this everyone. It works. I did it. And you know what? I feel more satisfied than when I first solved the puzzle. It takes a long time to get the right force and turn to open it, but it can be done.


My Isis was locked after only being partially reassembled after opening.

Besides the way you described in this topic, is it possible to open the isis by using the moveable bands and lining up the hyroglyphics? Plz email me the anwser to Jehrets2SPLATcomcast.net...thnxs if any1 does...

omg genius i just broke my puzzle and couldnt get it open and got it open again with this method.

If you can't hide the ring inside your Isis, but you still want an original hiding place, you might want to consider a Cryptex:



(Only a small ring would fit, but most wedding rings aren't all that big)
