Thanks Wind Lane, now I have it. I think the Madrigals have a cunning plan to confuse by simplicity!!

Good luck with the Clue Hunt

You're not going crazy or anything, you're just missing the same thing I did at first.

Notice that the symbols listed down the left side of the left page have a ">" going from them and that the letters on the right side of the right page have a "<" going from them. You can put the two columns side by side till the angles are like this: "><" and they can be nudged just a bit more into an X, creating crossed lines instead of the little angles. That should give you what you were missing.

Also, it's the head shots at the top of the two pages that gives you the order things should go in.

I guess it depends on the size of the scan that you used.
I used this scan
http://sapagoo.unfiction.com/39Clues/EiffelTest.jpg
with avg starting distance 108. You can tell there is something there with block size 4, but it is really clear when you use block size 10.

What I did to figure out the starting distance is I zoomed in on the picture, and made note of the repeating pattern of white splotches. I was in paint, and marked both splotches with the red pen, then calculated the # of pixels between the splotches.

Finally broke down and bought the card pack. I faxed the cover to my e-mail, converted it to BMP, and ran it through StereoDecoder.
I made several dozen guesses at the "avg. search distance", and ended up counting pixels.
Using 108 as the avg. search distance, with a block size of 10, and got the following image.

Care to share which software this is?

http://www.c14sw.de/132.html

The tricky part is determining the avg. search distance - it was easy with the 2 examples that came with the software.
With the Old Western TV, I guessed 70 (with a block size of 2), and went down by 2s until I got to 60 - nothing ever materialized. Then I went up from 72 by 2's until I could see a fuzzy M. Then I bumped the block size to 4, and the M magically appeared.

Thanks sapagoo - it's always useful to have another tool in the ARG arsenal.

Could you post a picture of this cover. I can't see the eiffel tower on mine.

I found some software that decodes magic eyes. I tried it on Card 135 (the Old Western TV) - see attachment below.

So, I need a good scan of the magic eye on "card pack 2".
If it's large, you can PM me and I'll have you e-mail it to me.

That's hard to do because it's one of those "magic eye" pictures. You can't see them until your eyes go out of focus, usually a little cross-eyed.

If there's somebody who would be able to do it, it'd probably be a graphic design pro.
