I hope everyone's enjoying their Secret Santa gifts!

If you haven't received your gift and haven't heard from your Santa yet, please let me know so that I can make a quiet inquiry on your behalf. I would hate for anyone to be giftless. Crying or Very sad

Mine finally made it's appearance as well. Not bad considering it probably came by boat. I am now the proud owner of an autographed, leather bound copy of Ben Bova's Moon War. What made it extra special was that my Sekrit Santy included a puzzle just for me. I think it's a book code, but it uses various railroad stuff [one of my other passions] as clues to page # and so on. At least I think that's what it is. Digging into it now. Thanks Sekrit Santy! You rock!

Woo! My gift was just delivered (which was to be expected considering the insane weather we've been having here in the midwest).

I received the graphic novel adaptation of Coraline by Neil Gaiman (yay!) and Comic Book Tattoo, an anthology of comics inspired by Tori Amos songs (yay!)

Thanks Secret Santa Sally!!! Wink

Rock On

Good Times

Opened my gift. A Ravensberger glow-in-the-dark celestial globe puzzle.
It was from natas.
We had a nice time putting it together!

There were no less than 3 bold statements included in various box inserts that talked about how their quality control guarantees there won't be any missing pieces, but there seems to have been a factory mix-up.

You can either put in the 10 pole pieces that allow it to be displayed as in the picture or substitute those for 10 that make it a solid sphere. Really cool of them to do that. But this one only came with the 5 pieces for the North pole and a perfect 5 piece block was missing in another random area.

Nothing a quick email won't take care of. But I thought it was funny seeing how they stated their assurance so often.

It 's beautiful and much appreciated.

Thank you Secret Natas. Very Happy

Thank you Secret Santa - I had fun trying to explain the puzzle books to konashark. They are beautifully illustrated and proudly displayed on the SWAG case in our den (pictures will follow).

I'm still not sure what you meant about the "Silly gift", though.

I wanted to get you something 'fun and silly' to go along with the puzzle books. It's forthcoming and will instead be a welcome home gift.

I am too well trained. I did that in my head? /me pats self on the back.

Even if it's simple, it's fun!

Thanks again for hosting this event.

Oh yeah! I meant "simple" as in "simple substitution" - NOT that it was a simple puzzle, as my hour of pondering can attest. But I did have fun with it, because it was a puzzle all for me, me, me, and someone made it for me and got someone else at Mental Floss to write it down and send it to me - how awesome is that? Very Happy

I just got my gift! Very Happy

A subscription to Mental Floss magazine, because I had let mine lapse. I just love that rag - it's full of some of the most fascinating information. There was a note on the back of the card:

NOT-SO-SECRET-SANTA

Look at all those doubles! The three letter words that couldn't possibly be "and" and "the"! This has to be a Vigenere. I spent an hour trying different key words. Well guess what! It's a simple substitution cipher. This is why I'm not in charge of puzzles. Laughing

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, ol' Santa ol' pal, whoever you might be! And thanks a million for the subscription! Brownie Brownie Brownie

Hey guys - I will be away from reliable internet (eek!) from 12/27-1/5, so if you need to get a message to your recipient or your Santa, please let me know before then.

If you've hit a snag, don't panic. Just let me know and we'll work it out. Smile

If you're a recipient who has not gotten anything by Twelfth Night or so and have not heard from your Santa, please contact me so we can be sure there wasn't a hitch in your getalong.

I hope everyone's enjoying a fabulous Christmas, Yule, Hanukkah, Festivus, and New Year!
