Very good theory Sherlock. Thing is, why arent the madrigals looking for the clues themselves. They could be infiltrating the branches and stopping them from finding the clues so that the Madrigals can get to the "ultimate power" first.

Ultimate power can be very attractive....

But if the madrigals had the power, there would be no hunt, book series, or most importantly, money for Scholastic. Wink

I searched madrigal on dictionary.com and it says:

a secular part song without instrumental accompaniment, usually for four to six voices, making abundant use of contrapuntal imitation, popular esp. in the 16th and 17th centuries.

All right... a part song, for four to six voices, popular in the 1500s, about when we suspect the Cahills originated. Sort of like separate voices (the branches) coming together to create the madrigal. So the madrigals are probably a combination of all four branches. If unity of the branches leads to the ultimate power, then the madrigals know the secret to ultimate power, making them the guardians of the secret.

I'm not positive about this, but it's definitely a good explanation and something to think about.

Sounds very interesting.... definitely a good explanation. The thing is, if Madrigals are a combination of all four branches, why would the section 7 letter (which we think may be ralated to Madrigals) say that they have to "impersonate" cahills?

One of Dan's favorite tv shows is "The Replacements"

I posted this in the theories thread, but it goes here, too:

Madrigals infiltrate by impersonation.

Quote:

"How do we get past all these people?"

Dan thought it over. "When you go to a movie, what do you pay attention to, the audience or the screen?"

She frowned. "What are you talking about?"

"Maybe we can melt into the swarm and slip out the other side."

Amy wasn't a fan of crowds even when she was totally welcome. The idea of putting herself in the middle of thirty enemies made her nauseous. On the other hand, it was a plan - their only plan. Waiting around was risky, too. It was merely a matter of time before somebody realized they were intruders.

"Let's try it."

They stepped briskly out from behind the statue, not quite running, trying to project an air of belonging. Dan sidled up to the fire-sword audience. Amy joined the throng around the squirt painters, who were removing their latest creation from the wheel - a sunburst of reds and yellows. Her timing was perfect. The spectators burst into a rousing ovation, and she applauded along with them. Nervousness turned to exhilaration. She'd done it! She was one of them! A cheering man clapped her on the shoulder and nearly knocked her over.

I know that this wasn't discused in the main branch but I thought that we might as well have a topic

Just a topic to discuss what the madrigals are. Don't worry if it sounds far feched just post it. Like I thought for a while that they were section 7 of the us governent. I got this from the kloses info and at the back of OFN there's a letter. I'll leave you to read it. Very Happy
