I am: http://www.twitter.com/hiddenpeanuts
Please don't be offended if you add me and I don't return the favor. My list of twitter buddies has gotten so large that it's bordering on the unmanageable to keep up with it.

FWIW, I've been using twitter for awhile and I don't have phone notifications on either. My phone buzzes and beeps at me enough already

hey kona - click on the link in your email from the person following you - this will take you to their twitter page and then you can click on the box that says "follow" (its just beneath the person's name)

Good luck with that. I tried my only avenue of getting one (online upgrade yesterday) and failed hard |
My attempt will consist of either going to Rotterdam for the 3G sale starting there at midnight Thursday night, or lying in front of the local T-Mobile store early next morning... since they sent out the midnight sale e-mail newsletter to about 140,000 people and simultaneously announced they will only actually have 500 phones there, I think I'll bet on the second option... |
I have formulated another plan - my local store will hopefully not have queues outside (I live in a rather small town) so hopefully I can pop in before work and get one. That is, if the stores can do the upgrade... I walked into one today on lunch break, and they said they didn't know!
I think we have both a Carphone Warehouse (the only store in the UK licensed to have iPhones) and an O
2
store in town, so I've got 2 chances. EDIT: Apparently no O
2
store, so only 1 chance.

ON topic, Brian mentioned hashtags - would #argfest work? I'm not well-versed in the art, but I imagine something simple like that would be best.
ETA: I've gone ahead and started using #argfest. Use it if you like. (I hope I've done it right...)
Son of ETA: Apparently I'm not the first so I feel justified.

Back on topic: I sure won't be using text messages to update my Twitter... I'd have to use a British phonenumber, which would cost me almost a euro per message

No, but I would be paying on my cell phone for any txt msg. I pay 15 cents every time someone sends me a txt (obviously I try to not respond since that costs me another 15 cents).
I'm getting notifications in my email, so that works I guess.
People have signed up to follow me, how do I add them to my watch list?

This may be the case in Canada (and the UK) but I think it's unlimited in the US. Goodness knows how Twitter finance it, but then they're running a huge service anyway with no adverts/subscriptions/other revenue.

(afaik) SMS txting isn't a free service. Someone takes a hit. Here, twitter
But it takes a lot to get 250 mobile notifications per week... I typically keep it off, unless I'm away from the net and I either tweet and want to receive replies, or am just bored and want to see what others are tweeting
I have the friends list RSS in my reader, so missed tweets are still stored for viewing later. quite a handy feature actually.

I'm pretty sure you don't pay for Twitter to send you text messages, only the other way round. Also, to add someone just go to their profile and there should be a "follow" button.
