Wait, "I'm in" is only 6 characters so that would be enough, right?
Anyway, I'm not sure what happened to the previous options for e-mail notification... there's still a lot of stuff from the old days that's not on the new forum (yet), but there's not much progress on that front, mostly because of
1) other stuff (not in the least part ARGfest) got priority
2) our resident PHP-god has been MIA for a couple of months now
I hope we'll get around to fixing stuff like this someday, but I'm afraid it's not top off mind right now (I SO miss the merge function as a mod!!!)

That would be wonderful. Was that a feature on the forums way back? I don't remember it... But the other forums I frequent do that.
In response to djsampson - I fully agree this is a social forum. There idn't a need to stay on topic 24-7. A good thread jack now and then while it can be annoying to many is fine in the eyes of others. If the context of many of the "i'm in" posts were also intros, or social discussions off topic, it probably wouldn't have bothered me as much. There were many in that thread specifically that were much longer than one liners - however that thread is not the first, nor i am sure the last, like it. If i continue to have to further explain my actions, and what i mean, and the difference between a, b, c, and d... Then people are going to think i'm still upset - i'm not. I've never, however, been one to not respond to a pick.
also, thebruce... smarty alec!!! yes i noticed.
Giskard - when you explained it in chat, it made sense to me. It made more sense than {no offense space} Space saying to just deal with it. And for that i thank you.
now then, with it being all against three {with one not speaking up}, and us both saying "you are right, we are wrong. we don't agree, but we have no choice in the matter" could this discussion please continue {if discussion to be continued} without further attempts to quote me as evidence? LOL

Was that a modification to the old forums that disappeared when they, for some reason left us (oh yeah hacked!) and were replaced by these new, shiny ones?

Whatever happened to including the comment body in the email notification? I found that extremely useful and handy. Now the only choice is to click through the thread... if the comment was in the email, you'd still have to click through to reset the notification process, but at least you'd be able to see if the post is significant or not.
It doesn't even have to be the full comment if it's a matter of saving bandwidth on emails... just the first 1000 characters or something. something

Well, one of the problems that both Pixie and Kona expressed in chat if I remember correctly, was that when you set up an e-mail alert for updates in a certain thread, you keep getting alerts for totally useless thread updates (useless as in, there's no advancement in the game, yet there is advancement in the thread).
I think that that is a valid point and can be a real annoyance, but then again I think that since the 'new' forums don't only remember unread posts from your last visit to the forums in general, but from your last visit to specific threads, e-mail notifications have gotten rather redundant.
Bottom line, as has been said before in this thread, there's no way to manage all the chatter on these boards by adding more rules to the TOS, apart from the fact that I think it's pretty undesirable to do so, as it'll take much of the fun away. We just have to face dealing with the more cluttering side-effects.

I am sorry but, I have to play devils advocate here. The same thing that pixie is complaning about she did in this post. There is no information for the game in this part of the post. So isn't this also adding to clutter, by posting non-game information?

| also... this is what, 6 pages of mostly "i'm in" posts??? Once upon a time, we didn't just say "i'm in" we discussed what needed to be discussed if we had nothing to discuss we didn't. We don't need a roll call guys, really. |
This is something that almost every ARG has in it. Posting "Im In" posts also helps boost the popularity of an ARG. An ARG that only has a few pages on its kick off doesn't seem to make it to make it out of news and rumors until it is half way over. I see alot of players joining a game because it has a longer page count.
These type of things happen. I think everyone at one point in time has posted something totally irrelevent on a thread. I think roll call is easier to run through, rather than 20 pages of speculation you will see on some games.
I like to see who is involved in different ARGs when I join in. I think it helps to bolster that sense of community we all love here on UF. As a player, to know that some of the players you have played with befor are following something with you. And as a PM having your thread jump up to six pages before your ARG launches is also a bonus.
I can't see anyone really having to much of a problem skipping over 6 pages. Exspecially if ther are just "Im In" posts.

I'd agree there, Rose. Open arms, people. Open arms.
As for me, the best thing about "I'M IN" posts is that they often give away shills' IPs for me to ban.
