I don't have this card and haven't attempted a solve, but this could be some useful info for those that don't own a real Rubik's Cube (shame on you!) and want to use a web applet:

It's a well-known fact among Cube-ers that the center square of each face can never change. Thus, since it seems the puzzle starts with White in front, Red on left, and Blue on bottom (and thus Yellow in back, Green on top and Orange on right), if you lose your orientation at any point, just rotate the cube until the center squares match.

I was happy to see another Rubik's cube puzzle, even though I had to peel off my letters from my solved Syzygy Cube puzzle!

I have this book, "Mastering Rubik's Cube" which a Great Aunt gave to me back and 1980. And I think the cube I have is from 1980 as well.

It's done now and apart from my obvious inability to use a rubik's cube it wasn't really that hard. I tried the online cube as well but never ended up with anything close.

Anyone got any ideas how the answer relates to anything?

I liked the idea of this card, but in execution...I dunno. Maybe it's the Java Cube I was messin' with and the fact that it was impossible to rotate it at all without totally losing my orientation.

I couldn't see most of those letters. I felt vaguely certain about two of them, and I couldn't see the last one at all. It was enough to solve the card in one guess, but still...I was nervous about it.

The way I always solve a rubik's cube is like this:

1. Do one face first, so that the colours over the edges correspond to the centers of their respective faces. I can't really explain how to do this, but start off with making a cross on one face, with the over-the-edges colours correct.

2. Now, turn the cube over so that the completed side is on the bottom. Now you need to get the edge cubes for the middle layer into place. Do this by ignoring anything I've said so far and going to this website: http://www.wrongway.org/cube/solve.html

Hmm this is interesting. Wanting to solve this one I bought a rubiks cube and trundled away with it. Of course now the cube is completely scrambled and reminds me of what I should have never forgotten - I COULD NEVER SOLVE RUBIKS CUBES!!!!!!!!!

Now I have a useless cube which can't help me in the slightest unless someone knows an easy way to get back to the start

Hmm.. except i can get letters for line 1 (on top), 2, 3, 4 and 5, but 6 never seems to work.. i'll check my functions again.. Gah this is actually driving me nuts now.. i've got what i believe to be the last five letters.. but the first one is just weird. ie. all the letters seem to be in yellow? while the first one either there isn't an obvious yellow letter or it's the red bit on top.. neither of which when added to the other five makes a word i've heard of
