I might be able to help. What would you like the message to say?

Sorry, my Japanese really isn't good enough
Oh... and the fact that I'll have no internet until Monday won't help...

I think an e-mail distribution is the best bet to hit a lot of people quickly. To make it most effective, we'll need text in Japanese and possibly Mandarin as well as English. Happy to translate into the latter. Any volunteers for the former (KingOfWrong?)?

Just googled the etymology of his name and it confirms that a) Satoshi is a japanese name and b)it means 'wise'.
Can anyone confirm that this spelling of Satoshi is correct - it doesn't have a double 'i' at the end? .. Satoshii
Means not a lot to me at this stage....

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There are a lot of Google images of Satoshi's. Satoshi Tomii is the most popular. Satoshi Tsumabuki has a website which is only in Chinese, which gave me hope given the one in a billion which does suggest he's in China. I was taken by Satoshi Endo cos he's at Tubingen Uni and the hills behind did look at bit similar. However without someone knowing him, or getting a photo in the same outfit, it's very difficult to identify someone from a photo. Maybe someone who's a fan of myspace could post a message. Also I know we have members in Japan who are one less degree away from him than the rest of us.

hmm.
my friend who is rather fluent in the ways of those symbols on the left translated them into

watashi wo mitsukenasai. This he asserts me translates to "look at me" although "find me" is probably better in this regard. I already tried looking at him and it didn't help. (dang!)
I suspect an empiracal test of six degrees of seperation will fail since not everyone involved will participate fully. But I am tempted to try and start the search off on the other side of the world.
looking forward to seeing how -this- one pans out (I hate you mind candy. )

Not much. It simply says "What is the answer?" with a text box, and the standard three rules of entering an answer above.

Just my two cents but would it be a good idea to get firebox (or possibly the sunday Telegraph who printed the centerpage ads) to send out a picture of this guy in their forthcoming newsletters/papers to ask their non cubehunter customers to have a look. it would promote sales and get more people into the world of ARG and PPC.
Also I wander if Satoshi knows what hes gotten himself into.
I'm not sure if they will send out flyers, but we may be able to write a review of pxc for their website and include a small image and give him a mention.
I'm quite certain this is the route we're supposed to be taking, although we've yet to have any other ideas, look at shuffled for example.
Should we have a few more random ideas of how this card should be solved?
I was thinging more in firebox's e-mails they send out every week or so, and for random ideas, how about getting someone on the inside of the japanise police to do a search and provide us a list of every japanese man ages 25-50 with that name and we work from there

Could it be Satoshi Tajiri, the creator of Pokémon?

I'll find out when I get home, though I'm sure someone else is closer to the card than I am right now.

Whoever is writing this email + picture should politely enquire of the Unfiction peeps (Jamesi or Spacebass) if they can email their user database with it. Or possibly they could volunteer after reading this - it would kinda of look more official then AND also spread the good ARG word if everyone passed it on!
Careful with a hi-res scan though - I would stick to the rules, especially if this is going to be banging round the internet.
