Anyone want to organise a collaborative effort on this one? It shouldn't take too long at all. Someone could perhaps write a viral type email, with intentions of getting it spread and seen.

The biggest thing would be to get people to pass the email on.

I agree that this is probably a six degrees of seperation problem. There have been similar things done before. There have been studies/games where packages are marked for delivery to a random person and you're supposed to pass the package along to the person you think is most likely to know them. Usually the package gets there within 5-8 people.

I think we should set up a website with a quick interface to send mass emails to visitors' address books, or to have an email sent to a particular address for fowarding. If anyone knows him, they can post a "find claim" or some such thing. Maybe get a little banner ad out on some websites "DO YOU KNOW THIS DUDE...". If we can find him, I think we will find the answer to the card.

As soon as someone gets a hi-res scan if it up, I will make "lost"-look alike posters with him on it, also with put the email address if they do know him. Does anyone know what it asks for on the PXC website when you go to submit the answer?

I haven't got a scan of the card but I have started passing the card around.

Wikipedia:

Quote:

Six degrees of separation is the theory that anyone on earth can be connected to any other person on the planet through a chain of acquaintances with no more than five intermediaries.

The theory was first proposed in 1929 by the Hungarian writer Frigyes Karinthy in a short story called Chains. The concept is based on the idea that the number of acquaintances grows exponentially with the number of links in the chain, and so only a small number of links is required for the set of acquaintances to become the whole human population. + Six degrees of separation is the theory that anyone on earth can be connected to any other person on the planet through a chain of acquaintances that has no more than five intermediaries.

By extension, the same term is often used to describe any other setting in which some form of link exists between individual entities in a large set. For example, "see also" links in a dictionary entry may point the reader to other entries in the same dictionary; after following only six such links, the reader could potentially get to any word in the dictionary that has a link to it. In this special case of a dictionary, it is sometimes called the six links rule.

By the looks of it, this *should* be an easy card to solve, unless this guy is socially inactive.

Just some random spec too, as there are 6 Billion people in the world and it should take 6 to find him 6b/6=1 billion. Actually thats probably just coincidence. Ignore

I was chatting to Adrian Hon about this card last night and he confirmed that the idea of the card is that we all of us send out the pic (or high res scan of just his face to conform with rules) to everyone we know and ask everyone we know to do the same and someone will know who he is.

So can someone who has the card do a high res scan of the face please?

You should have asked me, I got the card at the launch, although I didn't even see it when I opened all my cards. It was only later that I realised I had a wave 4 silver-mmmm shiny!

Now I understand why a couple of people were asking me if I was the "Billion to 1 guy".

I hadn't even seen the card so had no idea...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"Find me."

could refer not only to
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the person himself

but also to
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
his location when the picture was taken

or, even better,
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
some sort of ad or promotional that he may have appeared in. The whole "waking a picture of yourself" thing reminds me of the commercials Sony did in america to promote to PSP. Maybe it's an ad for a camera company, or a tourist destination. Name the sponsor, and get the points!

... Just a thought.

My first guess is that is not

That would be fun: kidnapping someone to bring them to Mind Candy for the reward. Fits with Andrea Phillips' wish... (see here, discussed here).

Am giving up on the spoilers, as this is pretty speculative at the moment.

Been thinking about this overnight. I reckon that we need to find the bloke. Either his name will be the answer, or he will be contactable and will give the answer. The background is a hint as to where he might be. But I suspect this is the 13th Labour equivalent in this Wave: Mind Candy want to see if the Perplex City Network has enough clout to find an individual somewhere in the world through the power of t'internet.

First thing is to agree what ethnicity he is. King of Wrong, do you agree he looks more Japanese than Han (notwithstanding the title)?

i read in a service guide somewhere that 1% of you coustomers will not return to your store because they will die. What are the odds of finding Chin before he kicks the bucket? Bad Laughing

No, happo doesn't mean billion... Sino-Japanese numbers group in 10000s anyway (instead of 1000s), so it's be 10 oku (jyuuoku) for 10 9 or 1 choo for 10 12 (traditional English billion).

Wouldn't have classed the buildings as (mock) Tudor... all the ones I've ever seen are v.definitely black-and-white. Clearly it's somewhere with rivers (or canals, to my eye), and also hills (I'd have guessed Netherlands without that...). Would guess somewhere in Europe from the buildings, but so hard to tell.
