heh, this sucks,

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
i thought of putting in the number of all the languages a long time back, only difference was i put the number of languages that were in the countries on the card, but i guess its all the worlds languages...makes no sense to me.

i finally got the answer a while ago thanks to all the hints being dropped. So i tried to work backwards from the answer to the anagram that led to the answer and to construct the list of country names, but i couldnt quite get all the way there:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If you take the native name of countires as follows:
Albania - Shqiperi, Angola - Angola, Austria - Osterrich, Brazil - Brasil, Chad - Tchad, Ecuador - Ecuador, Egypt - Misr, Equatorial Guinea - Guinea Ecuatorial, Eritrea - Ertra, Georgia - Sakartvelo, Ireland - Eire, Israel - Israil, Japan - Nippon, Jordan - Al'Urdun, Korea - Hanguk, Laos - Lao, Liberia - Liberia, Mauritania - Muritaniya, Netherlands - Nederland, New Caledonia - Nouvelle Caledonie, Oman - Uman, Russia - Rossiyskaya Federatsiya, Somalia - Somaliya, Spain - Espana, UK - United Kingdom, USA - United States of America, Uzbekistan - Ozbekistan Respublicksy, French Guyana - Guiana Francaise

This is what i think doublecross came up with yesterday, and gives SAOBTEMGESEINAHLLMNNURSEUUOG, which can be made into "sum the number OO single languages", or you can change the name for French Guyana to Francaise Guiana and get "sum the number of single LANGUAOES".

Have i made an error? Is the card slightly flawed? or is there another sentence that can be generated that implies the same answer?

Will we ever know????

The answer, no clues, no hints is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
6912

i.e. the supposed number of languages in the world.

congratulations

Well done everyone thank God it's been solved.

Even though I am still lost on what the answer is and how it was arrived at this has been driving me mad for weeks so maybe I'll get some sleep and if someone wants to post the answer instead of clues for the thick ones amongst us it would be appreciated Very Happy

Federation of Micronesia? Wink

That turned out to be a red herring, didn't it? Embarassed

That's frustrating. I'd deliberately only wasted 2 guesses last night, knowing there'd be a flood of hints in the morning, but it's still locked me out. I think they've transposed GF, but they could have called it France, as in DOMTOM. However they should have then called NC the same thing.

Another nudge for those still struggling:

EvilGenius sometimes believes the wrong thing...

(but otherwise was very helpful to me yesterday with another card, so the Cow's not all evil)

where did the F come from? None of the countries start with F in their native languages.

What about the one you reminded me I was leaving off my list? Razz
Maybe the puzzle scribe transposed the 2 words?
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
'French Guiana' should be 'Guyane Française' (in French, their native language), but 'Française Guyane' would also work... ?

I haven't totally reverse-engineered it myself, yet. Confused

I love it when exciting things like this happen...I think I've got the answer from all the hints, but can't do anything about it until I get home...AARRGH!

OK, got it now

Got it now, thanks to a final nudge from Guin - who I record for posterity as currently being the sole #1 on the Leaderboard.

If it is indeed an anagram, or ordering of the countries,

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
where did the F come from? None of the countries start with F in their native languages.

And to help a little further:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
You don't type the anagram in the answer box, you use it to research a piece of information which is the answer. The piece of information is shorter than the anagram. Both anagram and answer have been posted here recently.

Can someone throw a clue... are we looking at an anagram of the countries' names, their native languages or what?

Cheers.
