I hate to rain on your good work with that map, but you've linked Warwick and not Wick, which is in the far north of Scotland. Other than that...
I think, on reflection, this may be my favourite card of them all. Just 'cos.

Map with Vectors (spoiler!)
For those that are interested, here's what a colored vector map looks like. Definitely an awesome card. Vectors in order are: black, red, blue, green.
Enjoy,
EnigmaDude

I got the date wrong and ended up with

Ah well. Still a very enjoyable puzzle.

Happened to me once. Now when I search I cover up most of the screen, squint a lot and ignore bits that start "forums.unfiction" - I hate not being able to unlearn things...

Yes. I agree it is a good card. I worked out the 1801 bit in my head but then went and googled "1801 friends four" and it blurted out the answer from this forum! Argh! I wanted to solve it and was obviously on the right track. Maybe there should be a "no robots" option set on these forums so people can't get the answers from search engines so easily.

I really enjoyed this one, and was pleased to get the first solve.
I followed magma's route and got to the same point. Slightly confused I tried what he came out with as the solve, but it didn't work. The next morning I was stood in the shower and it just came to me. Except I thought of the wrong friend but I knew where the link was and got it.
Very nice card, and I really recommend that people try to solve this themselves rather than reading the answer on here. Way too nice a puzzle to ruin like that.
Congratulations to mind candy for another great card.

Tried something, got something back, don't know what to do with it.

There are four groups of vectors seperated by semicolons.
I drew them on a map of the UK.
Wick-Bath makes a vertical line
Tain-Derry-Blackpool-Kings Lynn-Weymouth-Rosslare-Lancaster-Tynemouth-Tain makes a figure of 8 (two diamond shapes)
Stirling-Dublin-Cardiff-Hull-Glasgow makes an 0 shape
Bath-Montrose makes another vertical line.
Overall, the picture looks like 3 interlocked diamonds with a thin tall V in the middle, but taking each set in turn it spells 1801.
Any ideas?

[flame set] #134 - Four Friends Acting Up
No signature that I can spot.
The text reads:
| Quote: |
Fixing four friends up for a date
I traced my courses far from home:
Wick to Bath; then Tain, Derry,
Blackpool, King's Lynn, Weymouth, Rosslare,
Lancaster, Tynemouth, Tain again;
Stirling, Dublin, Cardiff, Hull, Glasgow;
Bath to Montrose; and when I was done
They met, and talked about their past.
My question is a simple one -
Which friend was it joined last? |
