Another possible solution, which is not accepted, is blue, green, red, red. It all depends how repeat colours are treated. |
According to the rules of Mastermind, if a peg is in the final solution but not in the right place, you need to place a white peg in one of the four slots. If there are multiple marks of the same color and the guess replicates those multiples, a black or white peg is necessary for each mark that is in the solution.
The first guess is red-red-yellow-yellow and has only one white peg. As such, there can either be only one yellow mark or one red mark. So, blue-green-red-red is incorrect.

Here goes with the full logic behind the solution (for anyone interested):
| Spoiler (Rollover to View): |
Name the positions a b c d from right to left and the rows 1 2 3 4 starting with the two Red, two Yellow row.
Colours
White peg for 1 implies either only one Red or only one Yellow in answer
Three colours in 3 must be right (three pegs), so must be at least one Red
Answer cannot contain any Yellow, must contain only one Red, must contain at least one Blue, one Green
4 must have two colours that are incorrect. One we know is Red, the other must be White.
Answer cannot contain White
2 can only have one correct colour which must be Green
Answer cannot contain Black
The colours must be only one Red and either one or two of Green and Blue
Positions
Black peg in 2 refers to Green
Green in position b
Black peg in 4 cannot refer to Green, must refer to one of the Reds. Neither Red in 1 is in correct position (no black peg), so Red cannot be in positions a b
Red in position c
Black peg in 4 refers to Red, Green in a must be wrong, we are limited to either Blue of Green since we have found the position of the only Red peg.
Blue in position a
Black peg in 3 refers to Red, Green in d cannot be correct.
Blue in position d
The answer is (as stated above) Blue Green Red Blue

I used to love playing this game, I like to think it played a large part in honing my logical abilities. Of course, given my logical abilities, that's probably not saying much.

#144-blue-circle set-mastermind
Your task is to crack the secret code that is made up of four coloured pegs. Bear in mind that the codemaster has six possible colours to make up the code ( red, yellow, green, blue, white and black) and that the same colour can appear more than once in the final solution. On the board below, four incorrect guesses have been made, the codemaster uses a mini black pin to indicate a correct colour in the right position and a mini white pin to indicate a correct colour but in the wrong position, it is possible to figure out the code with your next guess, what is it?
