it`s because "which countries flag is solid green" is grammatically incorrect. it should say "which country`s ..."

Solution Grid
Hi,
Just for the sake of completeness, I thought I would mention that in my solution to this card the question reads forwards, like normal text. It's still the same question but I thought people might be interested to know that you don't have to read it backwards. Here's my solution grid, written with the grid of flags held upright in front of you, starting with Wales in the top left corner:

I know this card has been solved but I found these sites really useful for anyone who has a rubbish knowledge of flags (like me!) and is still struggling, but doesn't want to be given the answer!

Also, although in no way related to the solve of this particular card, another typo on it is the title - "Vexillogy". The correct spelling is, as far as the online dictionaries which I've looked at, "Vexillology"

Hmm... it turns out that an Egyptian kingdom *had* a "
solid green flag with three white stars and a crescent - the stars symbolizing the three "Peoples of the Book" who composed Egypt's population, while the green stood for the nationalist movement, the Hajj and the fertility of the Nile. Then, in 1958, that flag was replaced by that of the United Arab Republic - a banner in the tradition of the Arab Liberation Flag." So I guess the United Arab Republic's flag *was* green at a point. Dont forget that words used out of context can be grammatical errors such as "was" in place of "is". this would then make sense.

I'd just like to point out this card is worth 43 points. Compare that to something like WordSpy (19 points), which still hasn't been solved and is looking to be a tough one, already with a second layer found (wordspy website and top 100 word list).
That makes this at least twice as hard as WordSpy, and that's only if the points scale relates linearly to difficulty. There must be a lot, lot more to this card. Posted: Thu Jun 23, 2005 7:28 am |
