[quote="SoCalSteve"]i sincerely appreciate the kind words. I was thinking Dec was out of the picture, but you know how Tron folks are. sometimes miracles happen! later is better anyway as i have a tron project to start after i get these bits out that i hope to have done in time to show at the theater. I'd have to strongly disagree. I'm glad its here in SoCal, I just wish we could use Kevin Flynn's technology. I mean then in theory we could beam you onto the grid, do a file transfer to SoCal, and rez you back into reality. It would be sweet to have you join us!

Nice, good luck on the project. We've also been throwing around some ideas on other ways to involve the community in this event. Maybe set up a "mini" arg style game that will result in a seat upgrade, some sort of vip package, or some other fun prizes.

In the event that this does come to fruition I will definitely put you at the top of the list for Dbox seats Socalsteve. You've always been a pretty big figure in the community here. As things stand this definitely wont be able to go down this month, but we really want to make it happen, so later is better than never.

really glad to see this coming together. if possible i'd really like a pair of dbox seats, but i'll be there to support either way.

We are already working on the process to get a hold of the films, and yes she has experience in working both film and digital. As far as the original movie goes, if we can't secure a copy of it, we could probably go the route of making it a free private screening from the blueray dvd, and only charging for the showing of Legacy *which we can most likely get in the digital format

but my point here is that i watched tron in the original 70mm in LA last year. didn't seem like a big deal to get together. they even had Lisberger and company there as well. if we are going to do a double feature, i'm wondering if we couldn't get Steven, Joseph & company to do a little Q&A with us.
Well if you have 70mm at the theater in question, then I guess you're all set.

As a former 35mm projectionist and theater GM (and current IMAX projectionist), my first question would be: Have you secured prints? If not, I would say that your very, very first line of attack on something like this should be talking to the film booker for whatever theater company your girlfriend works for. They will need to secure prints from Disney. That right there will be your hardest hill to climb, especially if this is for a special, private screening. Disney is historically an absolute NIGHTMARE to deal with on things like this. You may have it a bit easier being located in CA, but here in the midwest, securing older prints for exhibition (at least when I was running a retro midnight series three years ago) from Disney was like pulling teeth.
When you say that your girlfriend is a projectionist, does she actually work with film? Not to downplay her role in the booth, but lately it pains me how many digital projector button pushers are passing themselves off as "projectionists". This is an issue as you will need to have 35mm capabilities in order to show Tron. (Unless something has changed in the past year or so, last I knew there were no digital prints of the original film available from Disney. I'm sure they exist. Just don't know if they are booking them out.)
If you don't mind me asking, what theater company does your girlfriend work for?

Lol yeah I wanted to see it in Dbox as well, just never got around to it. Part of the reason we want to get it for this event. Once we get costs marked down I'm thinking of creating a "kickstarter" to control funding that way no one has to pay unless we get enough pledges.

Dbox is awesome! I missed
Legacy
in Dbox, but caught the IMAX. I'm in as I live in Santa Barbara. I could get 4+ if that helps.
