Always overthinking it!
I was finally able to figure it out after overthinking things for a while.
Try not to get caught up like I did and

Actually, one of those IS correct, just don't, uh...shortchange it.
3 minutes to get the solution -- an hour and a half to find the version the site would accept
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Check different web sites which list the critical bit of info slightly differently.
At the end of it all, you'll eventually find one that agrees with what is wanted.
I've found at least three versions on different sites so far and no definitive agreement as to which is the original/proper version.

but the answer is neither the title of the work, the author, nor the book in which it was first published -- help would be appreciated
A hint.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
That's not 100% incorrect. And Googling just a few words that I found (specifically ones that made no other sense) got me the answer straightaway.
Um...
what??

it just pre-dated my post by 52 minutes, so clearly the forum clock is off.
That's funny. It usually posts my messages as between eight and ten minutes off. For instance, my clock says 11:58 PM, but the forum clock says 12:06 AM.

Is help necessary?
Just curious: how, exactly, did you solve it by 11:45 pm, when your post is dated, when it isn't supposed to have come out until midnight?
But yes, I too am frustrated by the fact that the puzzle was quickly solved, but none of the obvious answers appears to be correct, so help would be greatly appreciated!
Midnight eastern. I solved it at 12:43 Eastern. (I'm guessing you're also in the Central time zone.)
Nope - Eastern, but my laptop said 12:55, and yet my posted was logged at 12:03. So, I'm not on Eastern time, but maybe the forum is (as well as off by several minutes).
