I can recommend the Intimation ARG - we're still in the midst of chasing down an A.I. who's losing her mind, and if you're ANYWHERE near Central Park in NYC, we definitely need you very much in our merry group of players. Stop by the section, check out the wiki we've set up, read up on Character Speculation, etc. There's a lot of story bits to read, and I'd say the puzzles are Medium-strength. There are a few more skulls to find, and the time is ripe for finding them, so stop on by - we're a super-friendly group, and would love to help to get you up to speed.
As a practical matter, a lot of the high volume corporate games like Something in the Sea (Bioshock), Mosaic Collective (Flash Forward), and Flynn Lives (Tron) are unlikely to be big on interaction. I could be wrong on that, of course.
I'm not sure about current games that meet your criteria, but
Smokescreen
(smokescreengame.com) is coming out in September, and seems like it might fit a lot of your requests. Targeted towards teens, story deals with online privacy.
Currently running,
Maddison Atkins
(maddisonatkins.com) seems to fit the bill. Highly community oriented (since it's technically a Lonelygirl15 spinoff, a lot of the fans and game is YouTube oriented and pulls on user generated content.) Puzzles have generally lead to deaddrops, but the game seems to have moved into a new phase.
I know nothing about
The Baldulc Will Rise
,
Marble Hornets
, or
Zombie Truth
but based on superficial guesses based on the trailheads and thread sizes, those might be worth looking into.
As a general suggestion, contact one of the more active players in the game(s) you choose, as different games have different resources to help you get caught up if they game's been going for a while (or even if it hasn't --the downside of decentralized interaction is it makes organization more of a challenge)
Anyway, hope that helps.

Your best bet would be to ask in the Player Help forum. While social interactions in an ARG are awesome, this is about non-game social interaction - meetups, ARGfest, etc.
Thanks for stopping by uF!
