I think that Elan hinted at some companies trying to buy out 42 Entertainment during his ARGNetcast interview. But that it would never happen.

This part caught my eye: "[the record companies have] then gone on to try to buy the company that did it to apply it to all their other acts."
This is the part that caught MY eye:
But I will look forward to the Black Eyed Peas ARG, that should be amazing.
/me starts looking for kloos in "My Humps."
lolz I found this interview on my own and posted about it then deleated it cus i saw this one... but yea Black Eyed Peas arg lol.
I love how real Trent is about music and the people trying to screw the customer. I can't wait till he does his own thing with his site.

While I agree with both of you, perhaps you need to remember what the
"granddaddy of ARGs"
was for.
Edit: apparently the site hosting the image doesn't like to be linked to. Fixed.

I feel for Trent... Marketing folks take all that which we love and find purity and value in, and they mold it into a mountian of crap to be sold to us at top dollar. They are far too quick to take something artistic and creative, and try to suck out its essence and use their factories to make little plastic replicas. Little machine pressed plastic souls... Plastic ARGs.
And what makes it only worse is that typically the general market will eat it up, further tarnishing the original art form.
Or as was lightly touched on at argfest - an indy 'scene' vs an 'industry'.

You realize that Trent was making fun of the Label for using ARGs, and trying to apply them to a generic Marketing Scheme.
I would doubt there is any kind of Black Eyed Peas ARG on the horizon. More likely Trent was trying to be sarcastic. (i mean seriously a BEP ARG?!?! wtf... that would be utter crap, its like making a Teletubbie ARG)
If there was any music based ARGs on any horizions, id be happier with A Gorillaz ARG. I mean they basically have an world and characters already. Lots of "out there" themes. And... first and foremost, they would do it right. No marketing crap... just plain arg fun for the fans.

is it possible for a meta thread to get off topic

Nerds...
Oh, granted, completely.
I'm a huge NIN fan and definitely a huge nerd.
I build my own computers, I work in IT, I play D&D (among other tabletop RPGs), I play computer games, console games (I have a PS2 and am waiting for more games to come out before getting a PS3, though I'm wistfully eyeing the Wii...) (Oh, completely off topic, has anyone ever seen these new games by Adventure Company which claim to be ARG video games? One is in an evidence bag? PM me if you have or know something!), I'm dressing up as a pirate and going to a renaissance faire this weekend, and I dressed up as Aayla Secura for the release of Episode 3 for Star Wars...
Ok, I'll just shut up now. My point is while one can be both, I don't jump to assume a NIN fan is a nerd. No accusation there, it just struck me as funny. Most (not all!!!) NIN fans around here tend to be angsty black-wearing teenagers...I'll be polite in saying what most people call them is not "nerds."
Though I'll also point out that most nerds make lots of moneys so I'm happy to be one.
(Yes, I'm really female, and no, you can't have my number.)

Funny thing is, Trent Reznor calls himself a nerd. He loves science fiction and computer games, so it's no surprise he's into ARGs.

AHAHAHAHAHA
NIN Nerds? *roflmao*
I wouldn't say nerds can't be NIN fans, or fans be nerds...I don't know that I know what the word for NIN fans is...but nerds isn't one I would pick.

Yet another Digg...
The Great Global Warming Swindle
Here's a rather curious review from the Jones Report:
http://www.jonesreport.com/articles/010507_year_zero.html
Quote:
"Here Reznor marginalizes global warming, stating that if and when a real problem develops, we'll take care of it."
Um, well, no Mr. Jones. I think ya missed the point... The article does do the album and the game some justice, but misses in other areas by a mile.
