Increasing your IQ by 150 points is a hell of a claim. Average (on Earth at least) is 100, below 70 and you're gonna struggle with shoelaces, over 130 and you're doing pretty good and 150+ will get you into Mensa. Taking an average person and whacking them up to an IQ of 250 would be ridiculous. And extra 30 points would be a big increase, but 150? I don't even know how you could accurately measure something like this. Of course, this is probably just a spammer lie, but normally they're not so whopping.
The irony of MENSA is that if you're smart enough to join, you should also be smart enough to realise that separating yourself from the masses by joining an "intellectual elite" is as bad as, if not worse than, separating yourself based on skin colour, religion, sexual preferences, etc.
I.e., you've just discovered fascism in a new guise.
Besides, IQ tests don't measure IQ; they measure your ability to solve simple, impractical puzzles. Genius, like talent, is subjective.
Hey there schmy
Working in Education, I wholeheartedly agree with you. Being good at IQ tests mean that you are good at IQ tests (which is not bad in itself, it's just a matter of perspective).
PS I still like getting Leitmarks

In other news, this is my first post on unfiction and I am loving Perplex City! If only there were more hours in the day for me to catch up.
And regarding the hidden code idea in the grammatical errors of the email (for the Sharp Red card, that is); I like the idea but the changes look too similar to the changes you would expect in regular spam. I could be wrong though. Happy to stand corrected on that one.

I think there's something here

If anybody ever needed a little sharp red, it's you, poppet. There's something big whacking you right on the nose, and you too dull to just put the pieces together. Why don't you jumble it all together and take another look?
Does it mean anything? Who knows?
I think that this card (Sharp Red) should be re-looked at. All the missing letters, strange out-of-place punctuation, etc. Some kind of code? Anybody have any ideas? There may be a message here we need.

A couple of o/t points:
1) Regarding MENSA and the various maximum scores on I.Q. tests, there is no set score. Because there are so many different tests out there that measure using different scales, Mensa requires a score in the 98th percentile. 154/156 = 98.717948r%, so JebJoya would certainly be a candidate.
2) Not so, however, the 600 times more exclusive Prometheus Society which requires "a score on an accepted IQ test that is equal to or greater than that received by the highest one thirty-thousandth of the general population". Fewer than 100 members exist (out of a statistically possible 150,000). So there are at least that many who would likely take umbrage with Bahamoth's proposed scale
3) Those on an intellectual budget can try the High Five's who only require 95%...
end o/t

Is OMGWTFBBQ supposed to be some kind of internet jargon, is it meant as a code to be decyphered or is Jeremy R. too disoriented?

Bahamoth
IQ tests have a tendency to be misleading. One's score will improve upon being subjuected to more and more tests, regardless to whethere they are the same questions or not.
The more practice you have with IQ tests, the higher score you are going to get.
I've tested myself on a small number of online ones, some were far more easier than others. On one I got 168, on others it was only 134. I've never done an official - go to a small, well-lit room and get tested by a man in white coat - kinda test, I doubt I'd get anything like my internet scores.
I think it should be done on a far smaller scale. 1 = stupid, 2 = average, 3 = clever, 4 = genius. Why be more specific? Who's keeping score?
I had a girlfriend who claimed she was too clever to be happy. She said I was just clever enough to be happy. I was insulted by this, she had no evidence except that she'd attempted suicide and so she must be sad cos she was too clever.
I dislike it when people boast about their IQ, especially since the scores aren't perhaps as representative of the truth as people like to believe.
But hey, I'm sure most people on here could get in to Mensa, judging by some of the solves (of which I am way off).

I have a question on this one - why does it ask for two side effects, when the e-mail gives you four? Should only two of these be selected? If so, which two? OK that was three questions, sorry.

sounds like its refering to the cheap ceretin, on the web advert it says "Would you like to buy cheap Ceretin (sharp Red)?"

Has anyone else noticed the slack grammar in the second sentence of that Dice Future? Well I say slack grammar, you could take the paranoid angle on it and say it could be some sort of cryptic clue, but that's about as much as i could say at this point.

Could that be in reference to card #045, "Snake Eyes"? Hmmm... maybe I'll continue this over in that thread...

Sheesh. I've never been tested, but I can't imagine I'm over 120 (heck, even that might be wishful thinking on my part). No wonder I've felt a bit out of my league on these silver cards
So, all you mental giants tromping around here, just be careful not to squish us little folk
